v1.2.6 is working fine for me. Should I test 1.0.6.2?

My mistake, it should have been v1.2.6.2 but, sure, try it.  I've tracked it down to an issue on XPSP1/2.  Seems to work fine on XPSP3 and W7.  Let me know if it works for you and what OS you're using.

v1.2.6.2 is working fine on my 32-bits Vista SP 2.
I didn't notice any difference from the previous version.

Thanks, Curt.  This has got to be an AHK bug in regards to XPSP1/XPSP2 handling long matchlists.  At any rate, I've coded around the bug in this build:

PlayTime v1.2.6.3

Curt, TT1, could you both please test this build and see if it works for you?  I've tested it under XPSP2 (which exhibited the same issue TT1 had on SP1) but I don't have an SP1 VM to test on.  Let me know.  Thanks.

1.2.6.3 works okay on my Vista. Was it just my imagination, or it is a little slower than the previous version, to open, and to exit?

Yes, it's slower.  A by-product of using AHK_L for its Unicode support.  Unfortunately, there's really no way around it and I'd rather have the Unicode support.

are you saying that for the sake of future versions, you expect to stick to this new "slower but more supportive" concept?

Unfortunately it still doesn't see any of the video files, and the Cancel button does nothing...

Correct.

The Cancel button won't enable unless a scan is going.  As for the other issue, I'm really at a loss.  I've verified it works on the following:

XPSP2 (via VM)
XPSP3 (my own computer)
Vista (via Curt)
W7 (my own computer)

I'm trying to track down another SP1 box that we can use for testing.  Even a VM would work for this purpose.

I can create a VM with XP-SP1 in it for testing, just have to download the iso from MSDN Wink

"The Cancel button won't enable unless a scan is going."

Yep, that's when I tried it.  I set it scanning my Destop (with subdirectories), hit 'Cancel' (it was highlighted red), and nothing happened (it remained highlighted).  I tried it numerous times in case there was some sort of timing issue.  The program just kept scanning away until it finished...

My copy is ("merely"?) using a couple of seconds, to abort a huge scan.

Right, it depends on how large of a file it's right in the middle of scanning.  If the toolbar button doesn't appear to respond well, press the Escape key.  That will stop a scan as well.

Just tried on a clean install of XP-pro SP1. Dropped a few folders of music (mp3) and movies (mpg), and PlayTime (1.2.6.3) displayed it all without a hitch, and played the files I selected and that are supported by a plain XP install: mp3 and mpg are fine smiley

Just for fun I dropped in an album by a quite famous (all over NL cheesy) singer tongue

Must be some other issue bugging TT1 here undecided

@Ath: Thanks very much!  I really appreciate it.

@TT1: What happens if you cut down the extension lists to just a few extensions?

Ahh ha!  I often run apps I'm testing from the Windows temporary directory.  Well, I've found the very first one that won't work right if you do ..  it finds all the video files, but none of the audio.  Anyway, I moved it to the desktop and, voila, now it finds everything.

Kinda weird it doesn't work from %temp%, but heck, it doesn't need to.  Strange XP-sp1 bug, I guess.

Now, I wonder about the Cancel button which still doesn't work...

Thanks all.

Try this build.  I tried to increase the thread priority of the toolbar when a scan is going.

1.2.6.4 required a TaskSwitcher intervention to kill it since it was using about 95% resources on my wimpy processor.  I tried fervently to get the Cancel button to work before that .. no go.

I was just thinking that a sortable column for the Modified Date as yyyy/mm/dd hh.mm.ss would be useful.  Would that be possible?

Also, Rt.-click Open Folder (a 'simple' Explorer window, without the tree .. faster).  Obviously this could only be an option for a single highlighted file.

If config.ini was instead named playtime.ini (whatever.ini actually, in case someone renames it), then there would be less potential conflicts with other programs in the same folder, should they be using the same config.ini name.

Thanks.

I was afraid of that.  Dangit.   Angry

I'll consider this.

I'll consider this as well.  It's easy to do.

I'm a one-app-per-folder guy.

Another build to try.  Have your Task Manager ready.   cheesy  PlayTime v1.2.6.5

1.2.6.5 runs reeeally slow and the Cancel button still doesnt work.  1.2.6.3 seems to work best, now that we know we can't run it from the temp directory.

It was worth a shot.  Here's the last test build for the night.  I moved the Cancel button off of the toolbar; it's on the bottom of the form now.  Let me know how this one goes.

Well, whattya know?  It works like a charm. The little round red X doesn't grey out like the text when the button is clicked, but one click does the job now.  I'll do more testing tomorrow.

Many thanks.
