But wait, don't DRM advocates claim sony is the devil (Despite the fact that I have never once been harmed or seen anyone I know harmed by any of it)?

True - but the Vegas, Acid and SoundForge families of were inherited from SounicFoundry and are truly excellent applications. It is a shame you can only get them through SonyMedia but even so they are worth considering if you are into that sort of thing.
