one thing that has come up in discussions is the idea of offering something special to people who donate during the fundraiser that they wouldn't be entitled to if they donated before the fundraiser.  while that might be a way to get more donations, it seems completely unfair and illogical to me, and we haven't ever done something like that.

I definitely agree with this!  I donated in Feb because I had a few extra dollars (a rare enough event!) that I could send and since it had been a while, I knew it was time to donate again.  I knew about the fund raising drive before I donated and didn't wait mostly because I wouldn't still have the money in March (I would have spent it elsewhere and probably for less good!)  I certainly feel I get more than my fair share out of the software I use from here, and giving back money as well as participation is only fair.  Otherwise, getting this kind of software with this kind of developer response would be overwhelmingly expensive.  In addition, I would loose a major source of information, as much of what I learn (news-wise) ends up coming from here long before I hear about it elsewhere.  Only the headlines come from elsewhere.  Interesting page 3 stuff comes from DC  :)

Before anyone gets too excited by speed of growing thermometer.. i should point out that it's probably about to slow down substantially because the newsletter call for help has now gone out and been distributed, and that was our main way of reaching people who might be sympathetic to donating.

where is the thermometer?

 :D

Look at the top of forum. You can see the red liquid trying to reach the 8k mark. That whole instrument is called as thermometer. I tried to explain thinking i'm explaining to Mayans.  :P
if your web page images are agressively cached by your ISP or browser you might not see it, its on the banner of every page now through march.  try ctrl+F5 to refresh the page. you should see it eventually.

In all seriousness, I still have not seen this magical thermometer, 4 different computers, 3 different ISPs, 3 different browsers, 2 different os's and 6 different cities..  must be that Australian internet filter k.rudd keeps threatening promising

Damn Mouser was right, donations slowed down a lot this week. Only 1500 dollars to go but it still feels so far away...

Who is apparently still chasing Cody over water in the Bearing Straight! Isn't it time they came home to Blighty?

Who made the drawings for the banner?

Nick Pearson (Nudone) is the brilliant artist who created Cody our mascot, and made so many amazing illustrations of him.  Nick also runs several other beautiful sites, most notably www.CodexTransportica.com.

When last seen on  the member map Cody and Nudone were heading up the West coast of Greenland into the NW Passage. I haven't looked recently but surely they must have reached the Bering Strait by now!

Update - just checked ...

Cody.png

Cody is just North of Nudone ...
