Quick Simple MP3 Player
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:43 AM »
Is there anything like that around? Sometimes I just want to open the file, not add it to my library or open winamp for it. Functions: Play pause button and a seeker... Anyone know this (possibly single exe :P ) kind of software?

The simplest I've ever seen: 1by1 — the directory player.

I like this feature:
Full Resume play: remembers last track and position

Are there more freeware players with such a feature?

Because the last version of Billy (and only a beta) is already a year old I just tried 1by1. For its small size (~100 kb) it's great (it even has an audio enhancer that works wonders on some bad recording I just tested it on), and it seems you can just 'install' it (by just copying the folder) several times (naming the folder differently) to use several instances of it. The "remembers last track and position" comes in handy there, looks like this will become another player I'm regularly using next to xmplay, Trout and mp3DirectCut!

Edit: Haha, I just found out that mp3DirectCut and 1by1 are from the same guy! ;D Now I remember reading about 1by1 before (when checking out mp3DirectCut and suggesting features/reporting bugs, but never had a closer look)...

XMPlay and foobar2000. Winamp can do it with a plugin as well.

At the risk of a shameless plug, Trout can do this as well.

Haha ok. It's just simple, it play's. I've asigned it as my default mp3 opening process, because I use other stuff with libraries which I open from shortcut. This tool is great for opening a just downloaded album and checking out all the songs.
Because the icon of Billy is real ugly, i've downloaded this icon for mp3 files:

If you want to show us the icon, you'd have to upload it to ImageShack or a similar site first... just take a closer look at your last post. 8)

For Trout, it would be wonderful to remove it from taskbar and let it run only on the right side in...(I forgot what it's called) - stroke leaves me grasping for words, but you KNOW what I mean.     :P

Please post Trout feature requests in the Trout thread (https://www.donation...search2;search=trout), not here.

Systray?

It's called "The notification area"

Why do some people call the taskbar the "tray"?

I call it (the "system notification area") the tray - if it was called the tray at one stage that's good enough for me.
If fact, especially if there's no problem with confusion with anything else that might be called "the tray", I see no reason to try calling it that other mouthful of a name ;)

veering even further off-topic ...
after reading this comment from that link I'm experimenting with Taskbar on top of screen
You touched on something that has bothered me for years when you referred to the taskbar as "that thingie at the bottom of the screen". The taskbar can be docked to any edge of the screen and I HATE it when applications assume that it's at the bottom and position themselves accordingly. I dock mine at the top and I've often wondered why it was placed at the bottom by default. Almost all applications have their menus and toolbars at the top, and when I'm working on something or reading I usually scroll so that the working area is in the middle or the upper half of the screen. Also, menus in applications are almost always pull-down, not pull-up as in the bottom-docked taskbar. So given all of that, why would I want to drag my cursor clear down to the bottom of the screen to switch applications or access the Start menu?

Because people make all kinds of choices that don't make sense. They want to live healthy but smoke, they want to be slim and eat cream pies, they spend more time deciding on which TV to buy than why they are not as fulfilled as they want to be, etc. etc.

(I figured out what you are trying to do! You want to make this SO off-topic that some moderator will just split the topic, ha!)  :D

Hi,

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I think the tiny MP3 player named M3 deserves a mention here.

M3 is approximately 100 kb and can be found in l.madhavan's software archive along with other minimalist/smallware apps.

-thanks for telling! Added to the "Send To..." menu, this little player is a genuine speedy gonzales... but in a discrete and easy-to-use way. Ugly face, but I like it ♥

M3 sounds cool, I'll add it to my things to try list.

@Curt - I still haven't had time to checkout Unlocker x64...  :D
