My all time favorite sign was found in the Bird Watcher's General Store in Orleans on Cape Cod many years ago.

In addition to a goodly selection of other bird-related stuff, they sold some 'outdoorsy' clothing.

Thumb-tacked on one of the fitting rooms in the back was a neatly lettered sign on an old piece of cardboard that read:

NOTICE: LATCH ON DOOR IS BROKEN
PLEASE KNOCK FIRST. THEN OPEN DOOR SLOWLY.
(There are some people you just DON'T want to see naked.)

The place is run by a real character by the name of Mike O'Conner. His description of the place is priceless: "Bird Watcher's General Store is the original birding store, the first ever. Located on beautiful Cape Cod in MA, we are a tourist destination for non-birding folks ..."

Check out the store tour on their website. It's a trip.  ;D

Not sure whether to put this here or in the music video thread... but it's fun. :)

No embed because it's about the NSA.

Very clever educational and amusing music video. The video and the soundtrack are intended to go together.

^that's great - I'm guilty of at least a few of those...

For those of us who cannot see it on YT (blocked here) try:
http://popcrush.com/...blurred-lines-video/

Proceeding in a grammatically careful (and hopefully correct) manner ;) - this was Edvard's response:

That was awesome!
"Irony is not coincidence" <--- that one line just made my entire week.  Year.  Decade.  Do you know the frustration of trying to explain how Alanis Morrisette's catchy but !@#$%& WRONG song about irony is like, totally, absolutely wrong in it's definition of the word?

That was excellent!

I can tolerate typos in forum posts, and I don't mind people taking some liberties in writing, but there's a limit that beyond I figure someone is simply an idiot. How difficult is it to learn your own language? For some people, it's nigh unto impossible.

One of my pet peeves is numerical agreement. It drives me nuts.

From the video, I am a fan of the Oxford comma except in some particular circumstances. I've seen too many times where people drop it and the sentence becomes unintelligible/ambiguous.

Jury's out on "whom".

Weird Al really does do some good stuff.

(Newser) – For two Harvard University undergrads, what began as "an excuse to eat a lot of cake" may turn into the invention of a lifetime. John McCallum, a 20-year-old from Louisiana, was daydreaming about cake his freshman year during his “Science of Cooking” class when he happened to see someone spraying whipped cream and thought to himself, why not spray cake? Is that possible? He and his girlfriend and fellow student Brooke Nowakowski went on to prove that it is, winning first place and $10,000 in the 2014 Harvard Innovation challenge, reports ABC News. Their "Spray Cake" involves spraying cake batter from a can, then cooking it for one minute in a microwave. You can also cook it in a traditional oven, and they say it will cook faster than typical batter because the spraying helps release air bubbles inside, prompting it to rise in the absence of baking soda or baking powder.
The ultimate test, though, came when the duo recently took Spray Cake—which, with just 30 seconds in a microwave, can also make cupcakes—to pastry chef Joanne Chang, who first inspired McCallum's idea when she lectured in his class about how cakes rise. The result? A big thumbs-up. When McCallum first told her about the idea, "He was just like, 'Cool. Lab project,'" Nowakowski tells the Boston Globe. “But I thought it could go somewhere.” Both are careful to say that Spray Cake isn't meant to replace cakes baked lovingly from scratch, but is instead an improvement over ready-bake mixes.  The pair, who will be juniors in the fall, are working on patenting it and are trying to find a manufacturer.

Yes, a cute joke. You'd have to be brave to do that.  Pretty special penguins too, to have travelled so far.
Reminds me of the April 1st spoof one of the British TV channels did a few years back. It was a nature documentary about the penguins assembling in preparation for their annual migration - just as they started to fly to a warmer climate for the winter.

Made me smile lot to read this:
George Harrison memorial tree felled by ... beetles - CSMonitor.com
I suspect that George, had he been alive and with his being a mystic, would have smiled about that and thought it a perfectly fitting tribute from Nature.
As I write this, I am Listening to him singing "All Things Must Pass", with my Logitech G930 headset...

I remember that quite fondly.  I'm a little embarrassed to admit, but I did get a little wet-eyed when those little guys began to flap, lift, then soar.  I managed to breathe out "... look at 'em go!..." before I totally choked up.  The very idea of such gravity-bound creatures having 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' was, at that moment, overwhelming.

Well, that and well-chosen background music...  :-[
