And the sad part I'd wager is that if you put an updated politically correct spin on that list, over half of it will still get you locked up (somewhere) these days.

At the risk of dragging this out, I just wanted to say.

If you find that funny ... ?

Personally I found that holocaust "joke" pretty offensive.

On a thread marked NSFW, I'm hesitant to remove it.-mouser (November 01, 2013, 06:23 PM)

While I personally did not find it to be offensive...I do agree that it was far to close to the razor's edge. Just because the thread is marked NSFW doesn't mean that folks are cleared for takeoff to go sky-shotting over the top.

So granted while some of us do push the language barrier a bit at times. A modicum of restraint is to be reasonably expected...because this is not 4Chan.

Still, when i see such posts, like the political posts, i just think ah, maybe that's one of the reasons we seem to have less and less new people joining our family here..

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive -- I'm just more and more feeling like we have to do something to improve this place, and seeing posts like this doesn't make me feel good.  Perhaps if I felt like we were a thriving community it would just be a tiny drop in the water.  But I feel like we are treading water and things like this start to feel like we loading up our own pockets with stones.

I should say that ArizonaHot has posted tons of interesting inoffensive posts, so I know know offense was meant by this one, and I don't mean to single any one out.  Like I said, in the whole scheme of things, this isn't a big deal -- it's just coming at a time when i'm spending a lot of time worrying about how to make this site a more welcoming site for new people..

Mouser - thanks for your comments and for being so frank about your sentiments. I feel exactly the same way. I have not been a prolific poster here and have never coded anything, but I've always enjoyed hanging out here and have used and still use many of the programs and coding snacks on DC (though I'm sorry to say that I've never donated as I live on a shoe-string ) - however when, fairly recently, things started going a bit weird here - about the time you decided to create the Basement board - and seeing that many coders no longer contributed to the site I almost closed my account with a strong feeling of disappointment.

May I make a radical suggestion : that this board (...NSFW...) becomes a child board of the Basement, and then you slap a "registered members only" permission on the Basement. In that way those that wish to talk about gun laws, police states and so on can happily do so amongst themselves, whereas all other visitors can concentrate on what DC is about ?

Thanks.
