^thank you, Tuxman  :up: but I disabled GreaseFire and GreaseMonkey, because I only found a couple of scripts to (not) use.

Regarding "YouTube High Definition 41.0" I thought youtube has been doing that based on user connection for years, and even on my crappy dsl it deems it good enough to default to HD. The same for HTML5 on pretty much for all videos that I watch anyway.

Firefox Extensions: WordWeb 8
« Reply #778 on: October 26, 2015, 03:28 PM »
WordWeb 7 ..... Oh, how I STILL miss this wonderful program.

Dear Curt,

I'm pleased to announce WordWeb Pro 8, the latest version of our one-click dictionary and thesaurus. Version 8 substantially improves the support for one-click lookup (and replace) in many Windows programs, including full support for Windows 10 and latest web browsers. The database has also been revised with thousands of new words, definitions, synonyms, and related and derived words.

See your personal order upgrade page to get it now.

Changes in WordWeb Pro 8 include:

    Thousands of new and revised definitions
    Fast and reliable one-click lookup in the latest Firefox, Chrome and Edge browsers
    Updated for Windows 10 and one-click in most Windows 10 store apps
    Improved one-click and keyboard lookup, including in Thunderbird and FireFox (no plugin required)
    Improved suggestions for misspellings
    Web reference embedded browser support for more modern sites
    Option to set the default dictionary to be a custom web reference
-email from WordWeb

NEW: WordWeb Pro 8 upgrade (...) http://wordweb.info/orderupgrade.html?CUR=USD#
If you have add-on dictionaries already you can continue to use them with version 8, they have not changed.

According to some, Firefox 43.0.4 is The Last Firefox to allow unsigned addons. I have but a few of the kind, so I wonder what may become real life when Firefox 43 is in the past; Am I to lose a lot of addons, or never update, or...?

My extensions for Firefox 43
Firefox 43.0.4

partly in Danish:

And what is all this imitation of another, inferior browser. How weird behaviour is that? Are "they" planning to merge Mozilla and Google?

Will Firefox have a future as my browser, or even as someone else's browser?  :-\

There is a Firefox Developer Edition without the addon signing enforcement available. We reviewers were told to use that one in the future. Sigh.

Does anyone use SearchWith

I don't quite understand how to manipulate the configuration.  If I SearchWith Web then it just seems to do a Google search.  I don't see the "each engine results in its own tab" that the author talks about.  Maybe it is too easy and therefore over my head.  I'm a bit baffled I must say.   :-[

Edit:  Ok.  I get it.  If other than the default engine for the category is desired one is supposed to press Shift yadda yadda.  Not a bad AddOn.

^several addons can offer just that. What I expect will make SearchWith better than the others, is the option to have it put quote marks around the marked words.

SearchWith encourages a simple context sub-menu by allowing one search engine per search service.

Hold down SHIFT key while selecting any of the search options to edit the selected text or to change the search engine associated with it.

Hold down CTRL key to quote ("") the selected text

Find more information on http://searchwith.mozdev.org

Thanks for informing, MilesAhead, I'm going to install SearchWith right away!

@Tuxman,
Is it easy / difficult / impossible to run Developer Edition as if it was a normal Firefox?

Right now the Developer Edition is version 45.0a2 while the normal fox is at version 43.0.4. Are the D.E. users allowed to "not update"?

Well, the D.E. is pretty much an "unbranded Firefox", so the usual ways to deny Firefox's automatic upgrades will probably work here too.

I have the newest version of FF, and I don't like the layout; the forward, back, stop, home, and other buttons are all not where I'm used to; how can I get back a more classic look & layout? I'm interested in either an add-on, or earlier FF version.

Use the Classic Theme Restorer.

When using this I found Theme Font and Size Changer handy.  I don't run a multi-tab AddOn so the changer is handy to set the tab color and font to make them readable after changing to the classic theme.  It can also make menus easier to read without resorting to reading glasses or the Windows magnifier.  :)

Firefox Extensions: YouTube Center.
« Reply #788 on: January 14, 2016, 07:37 PM »
Easy Youtube Video Downloader Express 9.02
HTML5 Player for YouTube™ 0.1.0
YouTube High Definition 41.0

As you already use Greasemonkey, have you considered replacing these three by one userscript yet?

This looked pretty interesting, but I noticed today that the Mozilla add-on site has comments indicating that the add-on is not working and development seems to have come to a grinding halt.

From the developer at GitHub, the explanation is (not sure of the date posted):
As of many of you know. I have not been actively developing on YouTube Center and there's a good reason for that. I have acquired a full time job, which leaves not much time for development. ...

Hi .. late to the party and have a lot of ketchup. (Wait, I did this back on p. 27, well it helps me review.)

Application: Firefox 43.0.4 - Win 7 Professional

These 12 I know I use and like and a few of them are why Firefox remains my #1 browser, even while I have learned to be a bit more conservative on open tabs. I used to shoot for 75-100, now I am happy with 20-50, and often less.

- Tab Mix Plus
- Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar - thus I use this as the hierarchichal adjunct to the superb Linkman keywords using regular bookmark-to-toolbar adding
- LinkmanFox
- LastPass
- Lazarus: Form Recovery
- Session Manager
- All-in-One Sidebar
- Download Manager (S3)
- Extension List Dumper 2
- Restart My Fox
- WikiWand: Wikipedia Modernized
- Flagfox

No tab count extension at the moment.
Page Rank seems neat, it is included in the robust Flagfox as opening tabs.
Various tools that make phone numbers hot.. I go back and forth .. Skype is not thought to play nice.

==================================

This next group I think I might use some, this is a tricky specialty area now:

- Docs Online Viewer
- Google Docs Viewer
- Open in Browser

Plugin- PDF Xchang Viewer

==================================

These relate to gmail - I am also looking at a website's tools called Hiber, this is a specialty area as well and I am actually not sure where I stand.

- Rapportive - (gmail) Making email a better place -
- Vibe for Firefox -    Rapportive for the web. Hover on emails, and get complete information about people

==================================

There are various biz tools I consider, one was:

SEOQuake

but I think it did so much on my google searches that google started to ask me to be sure I am not a machine.

==================================

AdBlock and NoScript and such I have mixed feelings about, right now they are not on, I may go back and read your experiences, I would use them more for speed than security. At the moment, by reducing tab usage with some of these other tools, rendering is quick. I find that Firefox up to about 30-40 tabs and another 5 on Chrome and a bit more elsewhere is ok.

==================================

Here are nine that I might be conceptually using, but not in praxis.

- FlashDisable
- iMacros for Firefox
- Personal Titlebar
- ProfileSwitcher
- User Agent Switcher
- Send Tab URLs - to email or clipboard.
- Super Start - Speed dial, simple todo-list.
- Tab Set Saver - a good extension idea, that needs a couple of tweaks added to make it really useful
- Textarea Cache   - it is meant as a possible supplement for Lazarus, which does not do Facebook.

===========================================

There are certain areas where I use Chrome, google stuff and it has a very easy pin-to-taskbar (something I recently learned and like), Use Chrome for google hangouts, ongoing Facebook conversations, Live365 (ending soon), and other stuff. The lack of Tab Mix Plus multi-row is the big limitation.

And I have a bunch of other browsers installed, PaleMoon in my Linkman "user defined" and has TabMixPlus, Lazarus and more.  Vivaldi and Opera and IE have a small place and I installed a few others for play.

Steven

tbh I often install an extension on e.g. a recommendation here, and then simply completely forget about it unless it gets in the way.
Cant say I noticed if this one (DoNotTrackPlus) was doing any good or not.

The 22 extensions I have loaded seem to be enabled.  So far everything seems to be exactly the same as on 43.04.

This sounded interesting and I gave it a try for a couple of days. But it seemed to hold one CPU core completely busy, and killed browser responsiveness, so I had to kill it.
