... as Opera's. (Maxthon cloud comes closest but more because it has a built-in app launcher for an actual external notepad.)

-made me remember New Tab King Firefox Extension   http://www.newtabking.com/   https://addons.mozil.../addon/new-tab-king/   which includes an application launcher, like Launchy:

Quote URL Text is like CoLT and CoLT can copy the selected text to clipboard as well. You can specify multiple formats for it as well instead of just one like Quote URL Text has at the moment.

Disclaimer: Not affiliated with CoLT just use it.

CoLT allows users to create custom formats to be used when copying a link location and its text. These custom formats also apply to copying the current page location and page title.

@sword: Many thanks for your post!
I was particularly interested in the QuoteURLTextadd-on, which I had not seen before. I just made a post requesting that its functionality be built-in to CHS:
Feature request: Copy/store/paste the highlighted text and any related metadata.

@hamradio: Yes, I also use the amazingly useful CoLT, and I initially thought of it when I read about QuoteURLText, but they are not the same thing. QuoteURLText picks up the text and related metadata for pasting, which is different to what CoLT does - for example:

"Wikipedia" as the syntax name. So massive FAIL. It's "MediaWiki syntax". Which is what the Wikipedia is making use of.
Where can I report this critical error?

Greasemonkey!! "Always on"
-My favorite by far and the amount of scripts made for it is insane.

Open With Photoshop! "Always on"
-Very useful since I'm a Ps junkie.

Adblock Plus "Always on"
-I hate ads!

Menu Editor "Always on"
-Lets you edit your context menus as well as your main tool menus.

Element Helper "Always on"
-It's nice but I had to edit my own script to make it better to use with one click.

Firebug "On when needed"
Very handy!

No Script "Always on for sites I don't know."
InspectorWidget "On when needed"
-Nice for scripting.

Foxy Proxy "Always on"

All in one gestures. "Always on"
Yup I'm lazy.

Tabmix Plus "Always on"
-My tabs MY WAY!

All in one sidebar "Always on"
-Pop out bar on mouse hover or click.

Hide Caption Titlebar Plus "Always on"
-Cuts the bars down to a small icon till you hover over it.

No squint site settings. "Always on"
-Nice for custom page colors. "Yeah I know stylish is better but I like NSSS better."

Remove It Permanently "Always on"
-The adblock element helper makes this one useless but I still keep it.

LastPass "Always on"
NewScrollbars "Always on"
-THIN SCROLL BARS

PageZipper "Always on"
-F you next page button!

ProxyFire "Always on"
-A quick proxy switcher that comes with their software I use it with proxy goblin only because it checks the list better.

CoolPreviews "Sometimes"
QuickJava  "Always on"
-Lets you disable Java,Javascript,Proxy,Flash,Silverlight,Cookies,Images,Animated Images and CS styles.

FVD Speed Dial  "Always on"
-I use it as my home page since it helps me keep track of my bookmarks very nicely.

TLDR: Too Long Didn't Read "Always on" (It kicks as when you don't have time to read a full page.)
-Reads the page for you and gives you a summary and surprisingly it's very damn accurate.

Rotate Image "Sometimes"
DownThemAll! "Always on"
-Goodbye internet download manager.

User agent switcher "When needed"
-Some guys like to dress up as chicks but I like to dress up as Google.  :P

What type of metadata like full formatting and all or another as curious now if I should have the other as well?

What type of metadata...?
Take a look here: Feature request: Copy/store/paste the highlighted text and any related metadata.
- and at the Quote URL Text add-on itself, here: https://addons.mozilla.or...refox/addon/quoteurltext/

I don't really know enough about CoLT to be able to offer suggestions.

Love New Tab King - thanks Curt!

-glad you like it, CleverCat. However, I never understood the deeper meaning of New Tab King (!) - I only tested it for a few minutes, to see if it could replace Launchy, and then removed it, because it also was so many other things that I didn't want it to be - so I would really like you to tell about it, please:

What is it about New Tab King that you like?  :tellme:

- IE View 1.5.1
   http://ieview.roub.net/
Open pages in IE via Firefox menus

After version 1.5.1, IEView was taken over by "someone else" and is now a carrier for "Superfish" advertizing, "WizeShoppy". Luckily, it is an option, you're not forced into "advert browsing" (I use version 1.5.6 without advertizing). But if you not are okay with that, the last "clean" version (1.5.1) can be found (only) at https://addons.mozil...page=1#version-1.5.1

I believe it is a file manager that can tag every downloaded file, and replace Evernote
- all from within Firefox.

What is TagSpaces?
A Firefox add-on, which allows you to navigate and organize your local files with the help of tags.
A extensible platfrom providing a web based user interface for your hard drive.
A purely locally running application, which does not need a web server.

Key Features:
File browsing, viewing, editing and tagging (without the need of a database)
Different visualization possibilities of directory structures and files
Portability of the tags, due to the fact, that tags are saved in the filename

Typical Use cases:
    Evernote alternative
    Personal wiki
    Data i.e. file management

I have quite a lot of favourite extensions in common with various other suggestions posted here and I'm not going to list all of them because of the yawn factor. However, a couple of less common suggestions that I'd like to +1:

Possibly my favourite Firefox extension is Speed Dial. I don't do bookmarks, I do dials. I can categorise sets of places into dial "groups" and I really like the way this works.

I'm also extraordinarily fond of Newsfox. I've tried all sorts of RSS readers but this one just works for me, and I use it all the time. There are a couple of minor idiosyncrasies -- sorting is slightly counter-intuitive -- but I've stuck with it for some years now and it's yet to disappoint me.
-- bests, Tim

...this space unintentionally left blank.

I don't do bookmarks either. Something about them always bothered me.

For my ultra-heavy-duty favorite pages, I made an entire (low tek) special home page with them. Thus it's available from anywhere, so I don't have to think about home comp vs phone vs friend's house vs net cafe vs hotel. It's just there.

Then for "stuff I'd like to look at later", I just save a page or three from the site, because once you know the site itself exists, aka reminding yourself later because you forgot, then you can just navigate back to all the cool pages. Sometimes I make a text file with notes in case there are tricks that aren't obvious.

TagSpaces
Add tags to filenames.‭

Views:‭ ‬List,‭ ‬Search,‭ ‬Thumbs‭ ‬(svg,‭ ‬png,‭ ‬jpg,‭ ‬gif...‭)‬.‭
tabs:‭ (‬New:‭ ‬(file‭)‬,‭ ‬Tags:‭ ‬,‭ ‬Files:‭ )‬.
‎“‏Select a directory:‭ “ [ ‬any,‭  ‬I chose a USB flash drive‭ ]‬.
In List view,‭ ‬select Tags tab‭ > ‬click file,‭ ‬menu:‭  ‬Add Tags,‭ ‬Open File,‭
Show containing folder,‭ ‬Rename File,‭ ‬Delete File‭ ‬> clicking Add Tags:‭
Comma separated list of the Tags:‭ _______ ('‬Add tags‭' ‬OR‭ '‬Cancel‭')‬.
Tags are in two windows:‭ ‬Common Tags‭ & ‬GTD.‭ ‬Clicking‭ “*” ‬menu:‭
Create Tag,‭ ‬Duplicate Taggroup,‭ ‬Edit Taggroup,‭ ‬Delete Taggroup.

I renamed‭ '‬myoldfilename‭' ‬to genmyoldfilename[BAB‭] ‬using‭ '‬gen‭'
for genealogy and the tag‭ '‬BAB‭' ‬for the surname.‭

This will let me more easily rename files and add tags that can be‭
searched or changed.‭ Not just downloaded files but files in any directory.

[TagSpaces‎_‏1.3.1287‎ “‏latest‭” (‬from homepage‭)‬,‭ ‬Firefox‭_‬20.0,‭ ‬Linux‭
Mint‭_‬14,‭ ‬64bit on a USB flash drive.‭]

I do the same thing for sites I think I'll want to come back to fairly often.   For the rest, I use Linkman Pro, which I love for many reasons, including its superfast search capabilities.  I keep an identical copy of Linkman on my netbook.

regarding Speed Dial - maybe test "FVD Speed Dial with Full Online Sync":
https://addons.mozil...ddon/fvd-speed-dial/ ? I don't remember why I don't use it.
It is based on the original Speed Dial, but is often updated (which Speed Dial is not).

http://lifehacker.co...ges-for-your-browser

Lifehacker Faceoff: The Best Start Pages for Your Browser

Firefox users don't have quite as amazing a selection as Chrome users, but its still chock full of new tab extensions for you to try out. Our favorite is FVD Speed Dial, which provides both great looks and a ton of features.

The Best: FVD Speed Dial

FVD Speed Dial is what you make of it. You can add new shortcuts and let them load previews of their sites, or give them custom logos to make the start page really pop. It also has built-in logos for popular sites, and while the list of sites isn't huge, you can choose from a ton of different thumbnails for each site, meaning you can make some pretty snazzy looking pages.

It also has a ton of options for how the page works, letting you add or remove a search bar, a "most visited" page, recently closed tabs, not to mention choose a background and customize the color of everything you see. It isn't quite as simple to use as its Chrome brethren, but with a bit of fiddling, you have the potential to make a pretty awesome looking page that behaves exactly like you want it to.

regarding Speed Dial - maybe test "FVD Speed Dial with Full Online Sync":
https://addons.mozil...ddon/fvd-speed-dial/ ? I don't remember why I don't use it.
Nor do I. But I tried it a while back and there was something about it that made me want to switch back to the original Speed Dial. So I did. :)

Speed Dial does get occasional updates -- the last one was fairly recently -- and although FVD is definitely prettier, SD has all the functionality I need (and possibly more than FVD has?)
