This is not about a favourite FF add-on, but about a SCAM/PHISHING WARNING re the sourceforge optimizeGoogle add-on.
The project was apparently discontinued per post dated 2012-02-13:
http://sourceforge.n...ects/optimizegoogle/
===NOTICE===
After releasing a few updates, but far less than we wanted, we’ve made the decision to stop the OptimizeGoogle Project.
The reasons for the decision were that there were not enough people on the team to keep it going. Google is changing things every day and it has become more and more frustrating to look at all the functions go broke piece by piece.
The code will remain GPL, perhaps another person or team is interested in picking this up.
For now, thank you for all your patience, feedback and support.

Description:
OptimizeGoogle is a Firefox extension that enhances Google search results and other pages by adding extra information and removing unwanted information. Created to maintain and improve CustomizeGoogle which seems to have been abandoned.

The optimizegoogle add-on links to seem to have been hijacked by a scam/phishing site.
Clicking on optimizegoogle.com will take you to a scam that detects your IP address location and delivers a page that masquerades as a Google YouTube lookalike page, or it asks you to join in a 30-second survey or gives the "Congratulations! You have just won an iPod" sort of page.
Under some circumstances, Ghostery intercepts the link and reports that:
Ghostery prevented a redirect from
52664.quikker.com to ck.ads.affinity.com,
which is part of Affinity.

Recommendation: If you have the sourceforge optimizeGoogle add-on, then disable it and delete it.

A cursor indicator. Hovering over hyperlinks will show a different cursor based on the targets file extension.
-Cursor Indicator On Link Hover - with large icons
(see attachment in previous post)

So?
Enable the status bar and watch the hover text. Done.

So on the dept of Most Useful stuff, I might have to think about AdMuncher and Ghostery again. I know, Ghostery prob. sells its list elsewhere for its own uses, but if it at least locally blocks the random crap, then that's fine by me. "Which ad companies wanted to track me" isn't very important to me, even by my medium privacy standards.

Perhaps - somebody should dig into that. OTOH, it has that "GhostRank" thing that's disabled by default, and which one should probably not enable. And unless it either doesn't blocks the sites it says it claims it's blocking or sells the visitor-data of blocked sites to some central list of people, well, it's certainly better than NO protection.

I have to admit. I thought it was a cool idea. Until I tried it and saw the icons. Would be a lot cooler if the icons looked cool.  But it was easier for me to read the status bar text than to squint and see that little zipper that meant it was a zip file.  :)

-ehh? You must have tried the very first original version, back then. The original version made me write him and suggest much larger icons - which he gave it, as seen on above picture. Surely you were not thinking about these big icons when you said the icons were too small?

What does the Link Alert icons look like?
It is weird that there are no pictures, not even on the homepage!  :(

Sorry, can't figure out a way to capture them on my system (I also have the url pop-up, but both vanish when I try to capture the icon).  Plus I'd only be able to do one at a time.

But the icons are small (I like small icons).

I like this. Nice and simple. I can customize icons too.  Very cool. :)

edit: Hmm, can't seem to figure out how to show my icon substituted for the default.
They never include help for the UI in these things. Fumble and error. :)

edit2: ok, got it. :)

edit3: seems to work smoother with the defaults.  As might be expected.  But with large icon setting there's no squinting. (I know you guys under 30 don't know what I'm talking about. You'll get there eventually.)  :)

Link Alert is nice find. Thanks!

Hide Caption Bar gives more browsing room.

FT DeepDark has become my fav theme. Not usually too fond about black themes but this one is well done.

Similar theme version available for Thunderbird.
Tried them on Manjaro Gnome/Cinnamon with compatibility check off and they did just fine there too!

Couple of addons to manipulate the HTTP referer:

Change Referer Button - let's you easily toggle between no referer, destination site or normal mode.
RefControl - Blacklist/whitelist control for the HTTP referer info.

Collusion before adding:

After adding and going to the same sites:

I know which picture I prefer :)

- RightToClick 2.9.4 (Disabled)
   http://nc.ddns.us/Ri...ick/RightToClick.htm
Allows right clicks, highlighting and more where forbidden by javascript

-I wanted to updated to the new version 2.9.5 via the homepage, because 2.9.5 not yet is ready at Mozilla's, but was met with this very unusual message:

RightToClick 2.9.5 Homepage
Add-on installation and download: Currently available only between GMT 6 am and 8 am. Please try again at a later time. Now it is past GMT 4 pm

 ;D

but I never get up that early!   :(

I have a couple of times been using Lazarus, but never became a fan of it; too many situations when it didn't save what I wanted it to save, because there was no crash but just me closing the page and changing my mind. Now I have found a better solution for my needs:

>Textarea Cache :: Add-ons for Firefox<

Save automatically the content in Textarea.

This means that a large amount of text is saved, but there are of course also options for auto-deleting the cache.

@Curt: Yes. I use Textarea Backup, from userscripts.org. Seems to work unfailingly, and well.
There are more scripts there of the same/similar name, but this one has over 58,000 downloads, so has presumably been found to work well by lotsa people.

-but IainB, isn't that just like Lazarus?:

The stored text is then dropped when its form is submitted.
-Textarea Backup

Anyway, my reason for now using Textarea  Cache is my habit of starting to write, change my mind and go away, change my mind again and come back. In such situation Lazarus didn't help, but Cache does.

Edit: Arhgh, now I see I paid too little attention to the words "when its form is submitted"
Hmm... I might soon test your TB.

Edit2: But no updates for almost 4 years?

NOTE! they do say:
For people who need password protect:
"Lazarus: Form Recovery" is your better choice.

I presume that means that their's is not safe with passwords (?)

Yes. Still seems to work fine though. I think I was originally directed to it by a Lifehacker post. It seems to be pretty foolproof and has successfully saved my bacon and my original text in several crashes or interruptions. (Sighs of relief.)
I have also tried Lazarus, but it wasn't so foolproof in Firefox. I still use Lazarus in Chrome/Chromium though, as it seems to work OK in those, but I don't use Chrome/Chromium that much for writing or anything else.

It doesn't offer password protection, which suites me fine.

Curt, I've used Lazarus for years, and as far as I've seen, it copies EVERYTHING you write in Firefox, not just when there are crashes.  That's certainly the way it works for me.  (For example, it just copied my message here, even though all I did was post it.  And I just checked and found that it was copying this addition to my message, even though I haven't yet posted the modified message.)

Hi, Curt.  I can't even find a setting that would affect this, but since you've found something you like, that's all that matters.
