Emergence Basic Freeware
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:31 AM »
Hi, I was just looking for a new programming language to replace RapidQ. Read that Emergence Basic 1.62 was offered as freeware in the past before the developers released a new version and removed the free version in Oct 08.

Does anyone know where I can download the freeware version? Thanks!

Took one look with google:

http://www.soft32.co...download_193690.html

Update: Oops - sorry that is the demo version. Looks like they have pulled the free version and replaced it with a demo.

Why invest time in a BASIC language that will not get you any support because you are using an old product. The sound of banging your head against the wall because of this...that I know.

To me it feels smarter to use a programming language/IDE that is actively developed and open source. May I suggest the following: Greenfoot Java, this is a simplified Java environment, created/sponsored by SUN, Deakin University and The University of Kent.

MrZebulon: I managed to find the old version. Thanks anyway.

Shades: Very true, I also realised the old version doesn't support Unicode. Will take a look at Greenfoot Java. Also considering wxPython.

If you like Basic and end up having to pay for one, you might look at PureBasic.  It's the one Horst Schaeffer uses for programs like MemPad.

What about JustBASIC, SmallBASIC & GAMBASS ? There are other freeware versions of BASIC, you can take a look at Wikpedia's BASIC page.

And to add to the possibilities there is Microsoft's recent SmallBasic posted here by icekin not too long ago.

I actually think it looks very nice, but I'm biased because I learned to program with QBasic, then VB so I tend to have a soft spot for them.

[EDIT] Ah just saw mahesh2k mentioned SmallBasic too.

On point of SmallBASIC, is there any way i can takeaway .NET Framework to Offline computer? (I can download on another computer & use Pendrive/DVD to take it to another comp, but i don't see any download link that allows this as one download link only for perticular comp)

Not exactly sure what you're asking, are you looking for a .NET Framework 3.5 offline installation?
