No start menu in 9.2 Alpha 8.2

Me again......... I thought 9.2 Alpha 8.2 was supposed to allow for showing the start menu when clicking the center button. The only thing that appears is the Taskbar, but the start menu doesnt display. I am running XP. Does the start menu feature only work on Vista? Please advise   :(
