Hi folks,

The default in SSC is to use the window title as part of the generated filename.

If I hit Alt+PrtSc with the focus set to an IE7 window open at the following URL:

http://srv-search/results...sgroups&s=All%20Sites

SSC hangs with the following message:

---------------------------
Information
---------------------------
Error saving file ''.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

No way to exit, must kill the app with Task Manager.

Process Monitor reveals SSC attempts to save a file with illegal names containing an embedded newline (see attached .PML / .CSV files)

Feel free to ask for more information (I'm a senior developer myself).

thank you for the clear bug report -- i should be able to have this fixed in the next day or so.. SC does try to sanitize the file name before saving, but obviously i missed something.  thumbs up

OK.

In the meantime, I'll hold my breath  tongue... and stick to "just the date" as filename...

If you need a tester for "beta" code... just drop me a note at

Any luck? I get this message while capturing a firefox window which had '+' (plus) character in the title. It worked when I removed %window title% from the SSC file naming options. Does that say something?

Problem is half-fixed.

SSC doesn't hang anymore, it's just unable to generate a valid filename.

For instance, if I capture the very IE8 window I'm typing into, I get:

---------------------------
SCREENSHOT CAPTOR - ERROR SAVING FILE
---------------------------
Error saving file 'd:\private_sba\net\Captures\http___www.donationcoder.com_Forums_bb_index.php_topic=16214.0
Screenshot Captor 2.44.01 hangs when capturing IE window - DonationCoder.com - Windows Internet Explorer 20090610154818.png'.

Filename or path may be too long or on missing drive letter, etc.

Change filename below or use File->Save As menu to specify filename, or File->Discard File to skip saving this file.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

It seems SSC generates the following filename:

d:\private_sba\net\Captures\http___www.donationcoder.com_Forums_bb_index.php_topic=16214.0^M
Screenshot Captor 2.44.01 hangs when capturing IE window - DonationCoder.com - Windows Internet Explorer 20090610154818.png

IOW the filename contains an embedded newline.

My configuration specifies

%windowtitle% %customdate%

as the filename template.

This might be related to %windowtitle% expanding to <URL><newline><page title>...

Seems problem is fixed in 2.57.01

Now I get a filename of:

d:\private_sba\net\Captures\http___www.donationcoder.com_Forums_bb_index.php_topic=16214.0_Screenshot Captor 2.44.01 hangs when capturing IE window - DonationCoder.com - Windows Internet Explorer - 20090708110844.png

(ONE line)

Great job!
