Name and Catchphrase for New DC Logo Mascot - PART 2
« on: November 20, 2005, 01:35 AM »
I think we are settling on nudone's bird drawing (based on idea of bird with coin from skrommel's page) as the new donationcoder.com logo and mascot.  still not final but it looks that way.

We now need:
1) a name for him/her (codie/cody has been suggested and is best candidate so far).
2) some taglines or catchphrases and Font choice.  We can change depending on the situation but would be nice to have an official one or two for use on official stuff.

love to see some sample images posted with ideas for this.

attached are 2 images from the other thread (https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1093.0):

when we settle on a good mascot+font+tagline we will probably set up an account on a site like cafepress.com and create some shirts and baseball caps and stuff with donationcoder.com logo on it.  my current thinking is that we should treat such things like pbs does, i.e. as rewards for big donators rather than have a shirt for $20 where we get $3 of the price, which i find a bit insane.  so as an alternative i think we will also match that with iron on decals which we will mail to any member who wants it at cost. the official cafepress (or whatever service we use) shirts/caps will then be very rare and we can also give them away as good prizes and stuff.

Would you like a copy of the 'shaded' Cody in the DC circle logo ?

yes i would carol, maybe we could see some different fonts too? the one you had before is fun but maybe a bit over the top?

maybe once we get settled on a nice font it might be cool if you could use your 3d skills to make us some kind of animated thing?

very nice carol.  i like the fond and i think the bird looks good in a circle.  maybe the hexagons should be coins?

what do you think of the simple catchphrase "Something New" ?

it kind of captures the (vague) idea that we are always having something new and interesting here..

although im thinking now the dollar signs in the circle are too much.
not sure what should go in there instead.

Very nice!  I agree that having the dollar signs in circles is much too much.  The hexagons were pleasing to me; also breaks up the idea of so many circles.

I'm not responding well to "something new," though.  Whatever goes there, I think it should tell the reader something, not just a generality.  "Great software" at least lets the reader know the general idea.  Maybe there is something more specific that would be more perfect  - like "unique software" or "software that works," or "software that hops," or "shines" or "flies."

Might it be possible to make a separate one for each program, with just the name of the program at the bottom?

Lastly, I want to put in a plug to continue work on the earlier version that had the bird integrated into DonationCoder.com, as well, because it seems you will sometimes need to have a rectangle banner, instead of a circle.  Like the rectangle with "created by  screenshot captor, donotioncoder.com"

quite right about the fact that we still need a replacement long rectangular banner for the main page,
something to replace the banner on the front page (https://www.donationcoder.com) and fit into that space.

how about instead of having a coin in the beak of the bird i draw a 'mouse' dangling there instead?

rather like a worm would dangle from the beak but instead it will be a mouse - mouse as in pointing device not a rodent.

How about "A Coding Revolution" or "Community Coding" or "More bang for your buck" ... oops getting carried away now ...

I have CarolHaynes' little screensaver up, and I'm growing attached to what it says:  "you name the price."

Sorry, but I stopped using screensavers about 4 years ago :)

Btw, I like "you name the price!" too.

Just my opinion but I think it would be much nicer without the money in the bird's mouth...

It kinda looks like the bird has just pinched the money and made a run for it!

Just thinking out loud in brainstorm mode:

IDEAS
Bird pecking the keyboard
Bird/s on an ethernet wire
Bird lining its nest
*You could wrap a message around one of the legs like a messenger bird with binary code showing on the outside of it
*You could have binary code printed around the edge of the face of the coin instead of the dollar sign

Still thinking...
