I propose never buying another EA games title!

This is becoming insane. As if their "only N activations" DRM policy wasn't bad enough, now they're going to lock you out of (all!) your games if you behave badly on their forums? I wonder what classifies as bad behavior... mentioning their intrusive DRM and "go fsck yourself sideways" customer care policy?

I, for one, will never buy an EA title again. I was skeptical in the past because they've butchered smaller game companies et cetera, but this is the final drop. Furthermore, I hope this will cause people to pirate the heck out of their games, showing that the copy-protection only hurts legitimate users... and hopefully this could cause some revenue loss as well (though I doubt it; there's too many sheeple around who don't understand / don't care.)

Aww man, but MySims Kingdomw just came out! :P

But I certainly agree: Misbehaving on a forum doesn't give EA the right to ban players from playing games they paid for. I wonder if in the ToS for Spore it says "You must behave on the Forum and obey all EA ToS for every EA product or else you will be unable to play this game."

Seriously, it can't be legal to ban you from all games if you're only breaking the ToS for a forum, or one game.

f0dder:
Well, it's your "EA account" that gets banned, as I understand it, which is why you're getting banned from all games. And hey, even if it might be OK for them to ban you from forums / online parts of games... they shouldn't lock you out from single-player (if the game support SP, of course).

I wonder how much financial damage EA would need to take before they start caring about their customers.

I agree it is going to far but I really do not think they are going to lose to may users, and if they do they will come back and the company knows it. People like playing games and EA put out a lot of games. Most users will just say Owell and make a new account or play offline.

The sad thing about life now-a-days is people have stopped saying "NO MORE we will not put up with this any more" they just say Owell can't do anything about it and no one else makes something like this.

This has been retracted as it's untrue. see the comments at http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=457006

That said, the previous statement I made recently (that's being quoted on the blogs) was inaccurate and a mistake on my part. I had a misunderstanding with regards to our new upcoming forums and website and never meant to infer that if we ban or suspend you on the forums, you would be banned in-game as well. This is not correct, my mistake, my bad.
