Variable depth hotkeys and keyboard control

(1/2) > >>

Rostam:
Two thoughts that I had recently that might be applied to future releases:

1) The ability to set multiple hotkeys so that, for example, mousebuttonX1 opens up the lowest level of CD, while mousebuttonX2 goes directly into one of the dock folders. This might have been brought up before.

2) Keyboard control: Call it up with a hotkey, highlights show which icon is selected, arrow keys (or maybe asdf, or some other new scheme) to move the selection, spacebar or enter to select an icon or dock folder, escape to hide the dock if you didn't choose anything. I feel like this could be as awesome as using it just with your mouse. I guess this would require some different method of deciding the location of appearance (center of the main screen or a user decided location), but other than that I feel like it would be another highly intuitive way for CD to be used. This would also open the application up to those people who love controlling everything from just their keyboards.

Any thoughts?

Bump! number 2 is what I registered to ask for, so rather then make a new thread i'd though I'd bump this one.
BTW, personaly i'd like to use it for an mcpc, where I can use a remote control and it's arrow keys to launch an application. That would be marvolous!
Great program btw, but I only wanted to use it for my MCPC, and without this feature I wouldnt be able to use this software :(

Yeah, if there was some way to select shortcuts with arrow keys, this would be a great application for home theater pcs where remote or joystick control is sometimes the only way to do things - I can't find any other decent applications to launch programs without using a mouse, I think this has a lot of potential! Even if it only supported arrow keys, there are plenty of other softwares to map remote or joystick buttons to keyboard keys, so it could still be versatile.

Any chances of this getting implemented?

timothyskelton:
Number 2 would certainly be welcome. I have a remote I wish to use this with and I can do keyboard emulation with EventGhost, so the only piece of the puzzle I'm missing is keyboard control in CD ...

Markham:
Improved keyboard control is a feature I was planning to add and it will be included in Release 0.9.3.1.
