Hehe - this post went from "I love Eggnog" to a "I like this beer" and 4 people voting to dump eggnog down the sink.
 ;D ;D

but it's 5 to 7 now in the beer versus eggnog fight - the eggnog supporters are many but quiet. The beer lovers are loud but off-topic - how will it turn out this round DING DING .....

Part of the problem might be that there are more breweries than eggnoggeries, so there's more to discuss! ;D

But what's big the deal? Eggnog...Ale...(Brunettes...Redheads...) why not just love and savor both?

OK - I'm going to pour a very tall beer and drop a shooter of eggnog into it... as soon as I get some eggnog.

I'll give you that one...

Well, you can keep your beer and the shot of rum for the eggnog as well, that's not my thing.
I simply noted that it was the season for eggnog, whereas beer goes year-round.

I noted however that the brunette is under the eggnog glass and she looks a tad classier. ;)

That would be Angelina Joli you're talking about? Hmmm...so you like that do you? ;D

Actually, I thought the redhead was much classier looking, but she's wearing a (rather modest by today's standards) bathing suit in this picture. It was from a photo shoot a photographer of my acquaintance did. I cropped his shot down quite a bit because I didn't think it would be appropriate to upload a bikini photo to DC. Unfortunately, you can't really see the model's face because of that.
But to each his/her own.  ;)

Actually not really. My main beef with the movie fashion and porn business is that they are entire industries dedicated to convincing me that my wife is not the beautiful angel she is and has been for the past 17 years...   :-*

As for classy, apparently Ms. Jolie can look the part, but I'm sure she can pick her nose and scratch her butt as readily as any one with less genteel breeding...

Your friend on the right looks just fine, BTW. The cropping did her face no injustice. :P

She's a model. Not even an acquaintance. Just one more random attractive redhead. ;)

Guess I'll pipe in for both

- my mum used to make "cognac aux oeufs" and a warm, spicier version which was not eggnog but similar... I prefered mulled wine and mulled cider :S
Anyway, wouldnt drink stuff bought in a store due to how much stuff they would have to do to make it last in packaging etc.

- when i moved to the UK the first set of people i knew were all real ale fanatics, card carrying camra members with the real ale guide always on them (and the good curry guide, typically). I was a belgian beer kind of girl but that british ale is nice stuff too :D

Any chance of getting her recipe and posting it?

I think I did throw away the little paper she had on the fridge door! (this was her treat especially once she was sick and needed calories but couldnt eat much) but I asked around:

cognac aux oeufs
I think the difference with eggnog is that eggnog has cream, and nutmeg

6 egg yolks
250 g sugar
whisk together until it is smooth and light and shiny
1/2 litre cognac
1 pack vanilla sugar, or more to taste
add both to mixture

Put in a saucepan in a larger pan of boiling water, and stir constantly until it thickens. Must not heat too fast or boil else the egg will clump. Keep stirring a bit while it cools.

Bottle and store in fridge. Drink cold or with coffee. It benefits from sitting around a bit for the flavour to develop but rarely got to do it at our house

very similar: advokaat

mixed cold and kept in the fridge

2,5 dl milk + 1c.c cornstarch, cooked to thicken (or use a can unsweetened condensed milk). Let cool.
8 egg yolks (!)
275gr sugar
1 tsp vanilla (or vanilla sugar bag)
whisk all 3 above together until yolks whiten
add 2.5dl cognac or brandy (or fruit spirit, can be nice too)
add the milk mixture

shake and keep in the fridge - let it sit 2-3 weeks then drink within 2 months

The amount of egg yolks, condensed milk, and alcohol (many recipes call for 75/90 proof alcohol alone or mixed with cognac) seems to vary with the recipe - so I gather it works out no matter what the proportions

Yes! Thank you for the recipes - I can't wait to try these out. Reading them, it looks like I should start experimenting in November so that the flavours will have combined by the last couple of weeks in December. Yum yum!

I am one of those lucky people that doesn't live too far from PA, and that means that long after other brands have stopped selling the seasonal eggnog, Turkey Hill brand in little 16 oz bottles is still available...year round.

Oh yes, straight from the bottle, and I don't even wait till I get home.

But one of the biggest joys of the season is Turkey Hill's eggnog ice cream on top of hot apple pie!  :-*

cheese icecream ;D
Believe it or not I've tried it - blue cheese at that (in Asturias I think - north Spain at any rate) - wouldnt recommend it though!

+1 for the eggnog icecream though :) - it sounds like a perfect combination ...

Yup, sounds good as well...

Note to self: bake an apple pie, buy LOTS of different ice creams to try with it! Diet in new year...
