I'm an avid bicycle racer on the road. What sports are people around here involved in?

I ride unicycles, been doing this for about 5 years now, my 10yr old daughter has been riding since she was 6 as well.
Great fun, VERY ADDICTIVE, great for building peoples self-confidence and keeps you really fit and healthy.
We have LOTS of members at our weekly club, many new members arrive each week through word-of-mouth and on weekends we go out for Muni rides (Mountain Unicycling) - try searching YouTube for "muni unicycle" and you'll see plenty of video clips :)

I started playing Boules early this summer -
very unsporty maybe but if you love trying to throw things into the bin from a distance you'd love it too :)

It's a nice excuse to be outside for hours at an end too
Played in my first tournament lately & came last but got a very nice consolation prize. So, I mightnt get into it too competitively, but, it is a good feeling if you throw a 700 gram (1&1/2 lb) ball ten yards and hit exactly the ball you wanted to and send it flying ... just need to make that happen more often  ;)

Apart from that I like walking in the woods or wherever, cycling too but neither really as a "sport" - just enjoy them when I do them ...

When you say a racer - do you mean sprinting / long distance / mountains or a bit of all ?

I primarily race on the road, so typical ride lengths are 80-120 kms here. I also do a bit of track cycling races. I'm a lightweight sprinter type, which means I do good on courses that are not too hilly, but also not too flat.

What's the definition of sports? Isn't boules a game and cycling an activity? Phil is  :-\

Have you heard of the guy that crossed North America on a unicycle, even carrying his own gears? Approx 100km/day.

Myself I cycle alot. Home and on trips to Europe (hence my avatar on top of Mont-Ventoux France). France, Corsica, Italy, Deutschland, Spain, Switzerland, plus here at home (Québec, Canada)

That's a subject of much debate, but I'm more geared towards hearing about participation in the "pure" sports. ie: things that get your heart rate up for sustained periods of time or spike your heart rate to it's max like in sprints.

This isn't actually a random question, I have something big in the works that is related.....However, it's still far off.

Who wants to die healthy?   :P

Kind of like setting up a big quarry explosion and lighting the fuse.......only to realise you made it too short  :D

Wiffle-Ball

http://www.wiffle.com/welcome.htm

I don't have a choice. I grew up in the town where it was invented. ;D

Like Badminton, or Bocce, Wiffle is a subtle game that can be played on many levels.

Where else can you get that for less than four dollars?

that's why I was saying "unsporty" for Boules
have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport
Cycling definitely qualifies, me, I was thinking along the lines of competitive, physical & skillful - I guess even Chess qualify there though!

anyways getting a bit off-topic as VideoInPicture says:

I play squash twice a week during an extended lunch break (this includes a 10 minutes cycle to and from the club). When I get back to the office, my face looks like its going to explode due to the exertion :o

I used to do basketball, soccer and badminton when I was younger. These days I simply run when I can. And sometimes I also run to do exercise :P

I'm for petanque... not too much traditional "sport" but trust me, you'll need to be in nice fit to be able to play long tournaments etc...
