Flame Warriors
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:37 AM »
After almost hijacking a hotkey app thread with a funny pic about resurrecting old threads, I happened upon a funny read while looking up the pic:

Some years ago, a minor spat ignited a searing flame war that threatened to consume a once-placid discussion forum.
While the forum burned I amused myself by caricaturing the chief antagonists.
Confounded at seeing themselves thus revealed, the combatants fled the field in disarray.

Over time the roster of online belligerents expanded and eventually congealed into the netizen's guide to Flame Warriors.
My own bad internet behavior would certainly have provided sufficient material to populate an extensive rogue's gallery, but suggestions and comments from astute observers continue to enrich the Flame Warriors collection...

Which ones can you identify with?  ;D ;D

I love Diplomat:

Diplomat butts into hot disputes, presuming that the combatants will welcome and appreciate his even-handed and eminently reasonable mediation. Frankly, he gets what he deserves

Not that I know of. Apparently it's almost a meme in itself, with different versions.
See here, here and here, oh and here.
Apparently, some forums aren't exactly friendly to the necromancers.

Perhaps some Photoshoppers among us could do up a set? Might make for a lol or two.

Understatement of the minute.

Especially on the MMORPG forums, I've noticed.

I'd say I'm somewhere between Eagle Scout and Lamer, probably.

Not as good as the former, and not as bad as the latter, but...

The flame warriors pictures have been made into 65x65 avatar images and put in the dc forum avatar list so anyone who wants can select them for their avatar image.

Thanks to DC member scancode for creating them from the original images by Mike Reed on the Flame Warriors site.

ps. Before anyone asks us if we have permission to use them: I emailed Mike and asked him if it was ok and got a reply in about 30 seconds saying "By all means, use them - that's what they're there for - thanks for asking".  Three cheers for mike!

Which flame warrior is our admin, mouser?

Well folks, which character do you feel best suits mouser. Once we pick, I think we should make him take that avatar for a full months time :)

He might be an admin, but he fits several other categories. Perhaps we should have categories under our title "Participant, Charter Member, Donating Member" etc which we can associate with our own flame warrior style :)

Not really sure which card would best resemble me (probably a combo of a few) but I will let you see what a forum/chatroom admin had to say about me and my "verbal fighting style":

Ouch! Josh knows me, I won't deny. Is there one to describe someone who can't shutup (me, that is). I would also add the following, which describe my personality weaknesses too accurately:

Tireless Rebutter there is no such thing as a trivial dispute. He regards all challenges as barbarians at the gates. His unflagging tenacity in making his points numbs and eventually wears down the opposition. Confident that his arguments are sound, Tireless Rebutter can't understand why he is universally loathed.

Ideologues are smug and self satisfied in their certitudes, Ideologue's opinions are merely a loose collection of intellectual conceits, and e is genuinely astonished, bewildered and and indignant that his views are not universally embraced as the Truth. He regards the opposing point of view as a form of cognitive dissonance whose only cure is relentless propagandizing and browbeating. The conservative iteration of Ideologue parades himself as a logical, clear thinker, while the liberal version trumpets his higher level of mental, spiritual and social awareness. Troglodyte is the natural ally of conservative Ideologue, and for liberal Ideologue it is Weenie. Ideologue is a fierce, but very predictable Warrior.

Zaine, I don't know if you have figured it out, but I am your arch nemesis from betanews, Metshrine, the man whom you think works for a competing product because I don't like xyplorer :) Peace man! I really dont like the bickering that was started a few months back because of my first review.

But yes, perhaps we should make DC Warriors. I bet we could talk nudone into drawing some characters for us. The first and foremost character would be the "Mighty Mouserer", the one who leaves a conversation suddenly and without warning to pursue other hobbies such as breaking/repairing air conditioners, dental work, and self-inflicted bus missings.
