I think you should ask them for the install disks as well Curt, I noticed you say they aren't included, now would be the time to make sure they give them to you.  and have fun with it, sounds good to me.

You can bet that I did ask. Repeatedly. Their shop is merely one out of many shops within a concern - they don't have it, and they don't care to get it.

Edited:
I was offered to order a rescue CD for $80 instead

No worries, Curt  As far as 32-bit vs 64-bit goes, the main difference (for me) is the ability of the OS to access and use all the RAM installed on your computer. I actually, jumped at a cheap upgrade from 3 to 4 GB of RAM on my notebook, knowing that there was a risk that it would be all for nought, and it was! However, even with it only recognising 3GB, it FLIES.

Re: your install discs, before you return the computer, check to see if the discs are actually located on your harddrive and that you don't need to use a factory installed recovery program to burn them to DVD?

I will have to demonstrate how little if anything at all I understand about this subject: Are you telling me that every modern PC can run 64-bit??? I thought (imagined) there were 32-bit machines and 64-bit machines, the hardware, and to fit this technique you did not had any choice regarding the bit numbers of the Operating System, the software.

it's P.E.N.I.S.-envy: Powerful Electric Network-equipped for Internet System

There are some nerds that like to show off their gear. Others show off their houses, wifeys, cars, suits... ;) It is silly for some and entertaining for others.

For me it is just fun to see what others use. Personally, I buy a computer that suits my needs. I do not envy people with bigger computers, because I simply look at the money that are still in my bank account and am glad I didn't use it for something I personally don't need. :P

Actually, if I should admire someone, it would be those with smaller computers, as they seem to be better at getting the most out of them :). That's admirable! Anyone can spend their money on big computers, but not everybody knows how to do with less. ;)

Same reason people put their computer specs in their signature files, or on car forums people post details about their Subaru or Honda or '67 Pontiac... Common interest.

Yes, Curt! That should be a blazing machine! Are you going to be running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista Home Premium? Hope it's 64-bit so you can use all 4 gigs of RAM. ...

The young salesman looked at me with wonder in his eyes: "64-bit?, yeah, I've heard about it. We sell so and so many pre-installed computers a year, but not once was it with 64-bit." It is hard to beat their prices, but you ("you") can easily beat their knowledge and their supply.

If you've managed to get the install DVD's off your harddrive, I wouldn't worry about it, then. I mean, it'd be nice to have a 64-bit OS, but not worth getting bent out of shape over. If you were actually buying the full installation from MS, I think it would be a no brainer, but you'll be fine with the OEM 32-bit version for the forseeable future, I think.

housetier finally has a decent system! I gave it myself for my 30th birthday :)

Actually getting it was rather difficult: when I had chosen a system and arranged for payments, it always would be sold out, so I had to go and find the next affordable deal, make arrangements, only to find it out of stock again... But this time it worked out and I now have a system lets me watch anime in that bloody x264 codec!
