Links to Reviews and Comments - Add yours!
« on: November 09, 2005, 06:35 PM »
I want to start a thread for all of our application sections with pointers to review and software listing sites that accept reviews.

So users can visit to read more opinions about our programs, and most importantly so that our users can easily go and leave their comments for others to read!

Install --> Error message
Have attempted to install ScreenShot Captor (latest release) twice now, each receiving the following ERROR message just prior to completion of installation:

ScrnShotCapt.jpg

I'm on a Windows (XP-SP2) Dell 4500 (P4 @ 2.0GHz) with 768MB RAM
A 1GB swapfile (seperate partition), 16GB free space on the C: partition
(where I'm trying to install SSC). No other programs running during install.

Ideas anyone?

ok i know that dreaded richedit line insertion error, let me see if i can find where its occuring and have a version for you to test before this weekend.

email me at [email protected] so we can correspond about it.

ps. my memory of the nature of the bug is that it is caused by some semi-faulty dll on the system, but i have an easy workaround if i can find the place in the program triggering it.

ps. since this is a program from the program itself, it seems like its installing fine, just having this error at startup.

Mouser,

What about adding "Image Resizer" option in Right Click context menu? (Just like Windows XP Power toys tools).  :)

this is wrong thread for this, but:
SC uses right click in image for panning image.
However there is a quick resize toolbar button:

Hi.  I would like to commend you on this site and this excellent piece of software.  I have tried other software in a similar applications both shareware and freeware but found your application to be up there with the so-called best.  In fact in some instances this is better.  I haven't even begun to plumb all its' usage.  Again kudos on this great piece of software!

they are refering to text shown to first time donators on the donation page:

"Sometime in 2009 we may begin charging $50 for a deluxe lifetime membership that includes all past and future software on DonationCoder.com and other special access on the site. With all we offer we think that's a bargain, but for now we want you to decide for yourself how much it's worth to you and how much you can afford, and choose an amount you feel good about.  Until the new changes are put in place, a donation of any amount will get you this lifetime deluxe membership."

That basic text has been on that page for over 2 years now I think..

Neurario about 1 year ago

Best screenshot tool I have used (for XP).

@NewJerseyTico over 1 year ago

pretty cool!! (@mobilephone2003)

scribbly over 1 year ago

Another great application that just works!

nabarl over 1 year ago

nabarl over 1 year ago

Its interface looks professional, this means not easy to use. but its really powerful.
The most inportant point is, it is free, and maybe even better than many ones not free!

Ryan Rampersad over 1 year ago

An amazingly great screenshot program that offers many tools and methods to take and edit screenshots. A bit slow sometimes and the interface seems a bit dated but otherwise incredible. Oh, yes, it is free too.

Leech almost 3 years ago

Awesome software to take screenshots professionally.

The Screen Capture review page at Tech Support Alert has two negative comments that may need correcting.
Only the Windows 7 snipping tool will snip multiple monitors. Some will work if the first monitor is "empty" ( Screenshot captor among others), but with images on both screens none of the listed programs work properly on a multi-monitor setup.
The following screen savers failed due to fact that they lower the screen resolution before a save thereby effectively cropping out over half the screen.  They may work fine if your screen resolution is set very low.

I'm not in a position to have an opinion about these comments, but overall, I like Screen Captor better than their Editor's Choice, especially now that ZUploader is integrated.

Now that Mouser has corrected the record, I added this comment to the article.

Screenshot Captor should be the Editor's Choice. It has every feature listed in the article and comments, including the features the Editor's Choice and top picks are missing. (How did DuckCapture become Editor's Choice without an image editor?)

Screenshot Captor also has several other features. My favorite is direct upload to Dropbox, Flicker, Image Shack, Photobucket, etc., etc. with auto creation of URL shortner links through most of the main URL shortner sites such as goo.gl and bit.ly.

I have never encountered the multi-monitor and screen resolution issues that were mentioned, so I suspect they are due to unusual and obscure bugs.

Given all the features, intuitive use and high level of configurability, it should have been named Screenshot Kitchen Sink.

thanks steve

I'm going to try to revisit this rare bug that the editor suffered and see if i can't trace down the cause of it.  The reviewer can hardly be blamed for not choosing a program that can't capture on his screen properly.  But the high number of programs that failed gives a pretty clear indication that something odd is going on -- that something is triggering a bug in all of these screenshot programs.
