Hi, can CD be used for browsing the file system? The current version supports directories that can contain only shortcuts or other directories, right? But is it possible to have a CD directory that points somewhere to file system and when you click on it, to expand it, it will display all files and directories that are inside that directory. And again, when you click on some directory, CD will show its content. And when you click on some file, CD will open it. So my question is, can CD be used as a fast file browser :) and if not, could you add this feature :)

just something like Stack docklet (http://www.aqua-soft...owthread.php?t=46859), if you know it

Shadow problem does not bother me since I normally have them turned off anyway.

Why not allow the centre button to be allocated to any keyboard key or combo? It wouldn't give the position by the dock but would increase flexibility. In my case, it would allow the Start Menu to come up even if I have it as the Vista Start Menu - and it covers teh whole screen anyway, so position is not an issue.

Yeah, I think that's a good idea. But maybe not execute a keyboard key combination but execute a regular file/folder like the other dock items. You can always create a little script file with your keyboard command and get the centre button to run that script. I'll add this in as an option for the Settings Panel under the Centre Button tab once I get a few other issues worked out.

Right now, I'm making it so that Circle Dock can extract all the default high resolution icons in Vista so that you don't have to replace all the icon images.

Try downloading the latest version of the .Net Framework from Microsoft. It never hurts to have the latest version and may help the problem: http://www.microsoft...om/net/Download.aspx

Also, that's a cool looking screenshot. If you skin the taskbar, you can probably fool people into thinking you actually have Windows 7.  :D :D :D

Yes, this is possible and desirable. However, I'll implement it after I get Circle Dock 0.9.2 Final. The way I'm seeing it is that clicking on a folder link in Circle Dock will load all the files in the folder into Circle Dock. Clicking on the centre button moves you back out of the folder. I'll be doing some optimization and implementing caching for some of the dock item structures so that this file browsing can be fast. This is primarily why I'm implementing it after 0.9.2 Final.

does CDs homepage - http://circledock.wikidot.com/ - have RSS or something (SVN browser?), so we know that a new version was released without checking the site every day? :) You released Alpha version, could incoming versions have changelog, so we know what was improved, fixed, etc. thanks :)

The Circle Dock homepage doesn't have RSS or any live updater service. I'm not sure if Wikidot supports that. I'll post back if I find anything.

As for the change log, I'll create a new webpage on the Circle Dock website for the change log and will update it with each build.

I've tried out this great software on Windows XP SP3, and there were no icons in the dock, is it normal?

When I have a folder on the dock and click on it, it replaces the "main dock screen", leaving my mouse in one edge of the dock. It would be nice to have the option to center the dock on the clicked folder, this way you'll be at the same distance from all the folder's shortcuts (maintaining the pie-menu philosophy).

Thanks

When you first load Circle Dock, there will be no icons on it because you have to drag and drop the files/folders on your computer onto it so that the links are created. See my video: http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=9ko36ebOg9U for a demonstration and for how to change the images shown.

For the second part of your message, you have created a dock folder and I think that it's a good option to have for the dock to recenter itself around your mouse when you click on the dock folder. I'll try and implement this for Alpha 8, which should come out in a week or two.

I will be uploading a new Alpha 7.4 release tonight but you as a Windows XP user (it's mainly for Vista users), you won't see much difference. However, Circle Dock will now display thumbnail previews that maintain their aspect ratio for picture files.

Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 7.4 is released with these changes as noted in the new Change Log page:

  • Added the ability to use the default high-resolution icons for Windows Vista users so they don't have to change all the icons. Windows XP users won't see a difference because they don't have high resolution icons.
  • Thumbnails of files are now displayed in the correct aspect ratio instead of being stretched.
  • Settings Panel can now be minimized like a normal window.
  • Added the ability for Circle Dock to self repair and upgrade the Config.ini file which means that from now on, users can upgrade by just copying the newest CircleDock.exe file into their current Circle Dock directory.
  • Includes a French language file courtesy of Thomas Favre.

Hi, could you add the following feature. imho it could be useful.
Now, if you want to hide CD you have to press some hotkey combination that is assigned to CD, but I'd like to control CD only with a mouse. So, I'd prefer if CD hides itself when I move the mouse cursor outside CD window (or in general, when CD losts focus). Of course, this would be an optional setting, otherwise it won't be able to add new items to CD by dragging. What do you think?

First off, very nice program, been looking for something to replace my standard dockable folders in Windows for quite some while, and this fits the bill perfectly  :)

But naturally, I'd like to see a few more options:
1) Individual size of icons, or atleast being able to make folders larger than normal icons.

2) Option to remove the default windows shortcut arrow on icons.

3) Don't know if it's possible, but being able to press the entire Icon area. Now you can't click where the icon is transparent. So on small icons you have to press quite accurately.

4) Bindable to all keys, e.g. I have a logitech keyboard with extra keys, would be nice if I could just press one of those and have the Menu pop up. Isn't it possible to add a script that recognizes they keystroke, just like games do it?

5) Option to enable, such that you start in the root of the Dock everytime you unhide it.

I had a small problem with the folder Icons, when i just dragged and dropped the icons from the default icon folder onto a folder in the dock, the center Icon would get the same icon. I did fixed it by manually though, by changing the ini file, just thought I'd mention it.

Hi,
I am using Circle Dock from yesterday. It is an excellent dock but the only problem I am facing is that when the Circle Dock is running, it taking almost 100% CPU for 1-2 second whenever
1> I open a window
2> I close a window
3> I navigate to a folder
in that time I dont even able to move the mouse cursor.  :(
I am using WinXP SP2 with 512RAM.
Thanks

Are these actions when you click on the dock to execute a program or is it when you are just casually using other programs in Windows and you are getting CPU spikes? I have Circle Dock running in a virtual machine with WinXP SP2 with 128 megs of ram and it runs pretty spiffy. I don't get any 100% CPU spikes or lag with it. Perhaps provide a screenshot of your task manager when this happens?

What are your CPU specs?

Hi,
I am attaching a screenshot. It is happening when I am casually using other programs in Windows. And for that time I cant even move mouse cursor. The system specification from which I take the attached screenshot is
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz
128MB RAM
Thanks

It says “Organize the dock items using dock folders”, but I can not see, how it is supposed to be done. When I drop something on a folder, they both rearrange, as expected. Right click on folder shows only two options, “Remove” and “Change icon”, and those are of no use.

Heeeeelp, I’m stuck :)

Hello. Right now, the current way to use dock folders right now is to add a dock folder and then left-click on it to open it. Then you can drag and drop icons from your computer into that dock folder. Click on the middle button to move back out of the dock folder.

With all three programs running all your computer, maybe it is over taxing the GPU with all the alpha blended graphics? Is there a way to see how much the graphics card is being used? I haven't heard of a way to do this but would probably be useful.

Just starting using CircleDock and I love it already. I use a laptop with an external screen attached, and being able to pop up CircleDock on whatever screen I happen to be looking at is very useful indeed.

It would be even more amazing for me if it always opened the window on the same screen as the CircleDock was on. Would that be possible?

I think it is doable and quite desirable, though I don't know of the code to do it off the top of my head.

I just started to use a multi-monitor setup last week and I can see how it would be useful for the opened application to be on the same screen as Circle Dock. I'll see if I can do it.

Yes you are right. But even if I close all the softwares, which are using layered windows, the CPU uses reduce but still I am having the mouse movement problem i.e. when I minimize a window I cant move the mouse cursor for 1/2-1 sec.

thanks
