As many of our users are aware, DonationCoder.com has an IRC channel which allows users to chat in realtime with one another. Well, in this channel, we have developed a term which we wanted the entire community to become familiar with. This term is mouser (Verb). The definition of mouser is "To purposely leave a conversation, or gathering, without notice or intent of returning for at least a 2 hour period". An example of it's usage is "Man, that guy just mousered me.". Well, our administrator, mouser, is the founder and originator of this term. Mouser's personality often times finds him leaving a conversation, much like someone with ADD, for a random task such as fixing his air conditioner, getting dental work performed, or upgrading his homemade Book Case. So, if you happen to stop by the channel, or have been "mousered" yourself, please post here and let us know! |

It should be noted i did not originate this term, DC Member KenR did, and i tried valiantly and unsuccessfully to keep it from entering the lexicon.
It should also be noted that i get accused of mousering someone after as little as a 30 second delay in responding! quite unfair i say.

I've been mousered!
Though I think 2 hours isn't an uncommon amount of time for mouser to just disappear in the middle of a conversation, I think I'd consider myself mousered if just 10-20 minutes passed without so much as a "brb" or "bbl."

 I love this post! Yes, mouser has been known to vanish, IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONVERSATION with NO WARNING, for 8 hours or longer. And then, when he finally makes it back and you ask wtf happened, he'll say "oh, I went to bed, I guess I should have said something."

That's the noun, not the verb. Part of being a cat is to have a short attention span and to be easily distracted. I guess that's why mouser disappears in the IRC channel so often...off chasing yarn balls in the middle of a conversation. |

I've been mousered many a times, and am quite pleased to see the term "mousered" used to describe it. I'm so frequently guilty of this practice, I'd not be surprised to see the term "al'd" or "prawned". Thankfully I'm not nearly as influential and, as such, my wandering off for cigarettes or days at a time mid-conversation goes largely unnoticed. |

I'd like to suggest a refinement of the definition from: "To purposely leave a conversation, or gathering, without notice or intent of returning for at least a 2 hour period". to: "To leave a conversation, or gathering, without notice or intent of returning for at least a 2 hour period". I've never gotten the impression, and mouser's comments in this thread back this up, I think, that he does this intentionally! |
