upgrade Q
« on: November 04, 2005, 05:54 AM »
Hello,

I'm a new member - I have been using a previous version of SC and just downloaded the newest version. Should I delete the old version first or is it OK to install over the old one.

Also in the old version the keys to copy are ctrl+alt+s (or any other 3rd key - I use an app that uses the alt key for a lot of functions and everytime I try to capture a screen shot it changes my screen in the app.. can the alt key be changed to another key?

All software coded by mouser does not require an uninstall.  Just install over the old version.  You can also open the file you downloaded with a zip program (like WinZip) and copy the files within to the directory you have your current version in.  No "install" is ever necessary!

Any input on my other question?

Hi leewal
welcome to the forum.

In the newer versions of "Screenshot Captor" there are no "ctrl+alt+s" shortcuts by default anymore.
You can open the preferences and set your own hotkeys you better like.

One idea,
if you don't unstill uninstall the old version,
you may have still the old "ScreenshotCaptor.ini"
where maybe this "ctrl+alt+s" -shortcuts still remains ?

So open the settings dialog
and reset all the shortcuts from the right side of the picture.

Or just rename (or delete) this old INI, Screenshot Captor will create a new one at the first start.
But than you have to set your hole settings (if there any) from the old version again.

Thanks Kevin for remind me about thisĀ  :D

Sorry leewal, I dont use Screenshot captor that often (I have it on my machine, but I dont take screenshots much!), but it looks like Stefan (an avid SC user) has answered the question.

One comment Stefan, if you delete the ini you lose all old settings, right?  This may be desireable, but for an upgrade it may be nice to keep all the settings as they were.  This is what I do with FindRun.

Thanks for the help! my upgrade did keep my older version settings.

Do you know if my screen shots will also be lost if I update the INI file? Or will I just lose the basic settings?

Sorry for all the Q's (measure twice cut once)

Screenshots are stored in a folder you chose ... default is inside the app folder.

Unless you delete the entire app folder they shouldn't be affected.

carol said it perfectly; your screenshots will not be erased, though if you changed screenshot directory you will need to change that again after deleteing the ini file.
