cross platform video chatting

(1/1)

techidave:
Our school wants to be able to do video conferencing with a fomrer classmate that now lives somewhere in Africa.  I am looking for a safe and secure solution.  Skype, NetMeeting, MSN Messenger, and FlashMeeting have all been mentioned.

Is there one thing that stands out above all the rest?  Oh yeah, it needs to be cross platform.

I do not know how well this will turn out but the principal wants to try.

Jimdoria:
If by "cross platform" you mean Windows, Mac & Linux, I wish you well!

If however it just means Windows and Mac, have a look at ooVoo - www.oovoo.com.

Also allows you to do multi-person conferencing. Pretty cool.

Edit: You might also include Gizmo Project in your roundup. An alternative to Skype, and it does support video calling. It runs on Windows, Linux, Mac - even mobile phones. (Not sure if you get video on all platforms, though.)
