i do think your web page design+logo needs a serious redesign. unless it's supposed to be intentionally bad.

Booo, haha!  I know, I know.  I have to change the logo for sure.  It's called "Aram: Uncovering Truth, Beauty, and Goodness" now.  About the colors and overall design, I'm somewhat limited in that I'm using somebody else's theme right now, his name is Justin Tadlock who is like mouser, in that he has this rare determination to provide quality free themes to wordpress users and also gives prompt and dedicated service for people's issues while using his themes.  Most other guys charge $75-150 for a good theme.

If anyone has suggestions for the logo, or the colors or something, I'm all ears!

Think I found another and way smaller website management system for you...

http://tiddlywiki.com/

It's a 300k file that includes a wiki-like environment for easy maintenance. You can also add new themes and extra functionality to it.

Much more simplicity than one file is hard to find I would guess ;D

Aram's site is getting noticed by some big shots on the internet, why just look at what these folks are saying about the site already  :P

Is there such thing as a blog intervention? If so, how can we organize one for our dear friend?

Haha!  I'm working on it!!  Cut me some slack!!

I read that wordpress doesn't natively support php code, so I was just trying it out to make sure.  I don't know what I'm doing yet.  I'm trying to do something fancy with this particular page.  I need it to read the tags of my posts and autmatically put the Software List together without me manually editing each link in there.  It can be done, I just need to figure it out.

I also found out I have to do a lot of other things to get ready (and accepted) into a top grad program, hopefully Berkeley, so it looks like I won't be able to focus on this site as heavily as I was intending to for a few months.  Argh!!  I hate working and going to school.

ps
New logo and slogan coming tonight!!

If anyone here can help me with the setup of this Superior Software List, I would greatly appreciate it.  It would involve knowledge of wordpress, php, and css.  Here's a description I've posted somewhere else of what I'm trying to do:
(quoting myself)
So, this is how it would work. On the page, I would manually place each category (software categories, not wordpress categories) where I want it to go. Then, using some kind of code, I want a list of posts beneath the category to give me the post title and post excerpt like it is shown in the picture below. I want to point out the compactness of the formatting because there will be a lot of programs to be listed. Notice how the spacing between the bullets and post title and excerpt are much more compact than things normally are in a blog.

So, I was thinking if I add a custom field named "ssl-pick" then the value of that custom field would determine where the post would appear in the page. For example, only posts that have the custom field "ssl-pick" would even appear in the page, and the value of the custom field like "audio" or "video" would determine which list it would appear under.
Then, the title of the post would be the title shown in blue in the screenshot (where it says "Program (post title)") and the post excerpt would be the little summary shown in black text in the screenshot.

I was reading a little about this, and I'm still not sure exactly how to do it, but it sounds like it would involve page templates, some kind of query, and something called The Loop.
Here is what I'd like it to look like:

Wow, wordpress is really powerful.  I'm growing more and more amazed by it.  I also have to give a lot of credit to Justin Tadlock's wonderful theme.  It's really turning out to be a nice site, if I may say so myself.
Once I can figure out how to do the fancy stuff above, it will be really nice.  And the DC members should get a good kick out of the software page.  That's going to be my crown jewel of the site.

Thanks tomos.  I really want to get the software section going like I'm imagining for you guys here.  I've already made my list of about 80 or so programs to include.  I just have to learn a little bit of code to make the page look good.

Why do all my double spaces (like after periods) show up as single spaces on my website?  That's annoying.

HTML does not support multiple spaces. Insert   in the page code is the only way

Eesh, I think I'll pass on that.  Too much work!  It's ok though, I looked at other people's websites and it looks like they don't bother putting the two spaces in either.  Thanks for the tip!  You can be sure there will be a nice review for SQLNotes on my website sooner or later!

I'll be looking for your expert advice on the forthcoming Calendar (yes, I finally found a way to do it that I like...)

I'm very excited!  I think I finally learned how to query my articles in wordpress.  So now, using some basic php code, I should be able to make my software list.  I've done this so far, it's really nothing, but it's working!

OK, I finally got the list up.  The Superior Software List...yes, it's a spoof on Zaine's Great Software List.  However, since he has abandoned Windows, I feel it's my duty to have a place where people can find reliable Windows software like I used to rely on Z's list.  Check it out:

Now, the list is there and that's pretty much it.  There's a lot of work for me to do.  I need to add a picture and blurb for each program in the list.  I need to organize it into categories.  I need to add some kind of logo or banner for the list.

GRE news:

OK!  Well, I'm proud to say that I got the 800 on quantitative that I was hoping for (can't say the same for verbal, but I don't think it matters for my case).  So mission accomplished there.  Now, finish up applications and hope my preference accepts me.  Woo!!

Thank you, I know a lot of people get 800 on the quant, and I sort expected to get it, but during the test, a few questions were more difficult than I thought, and I started doubting myself.  Now, hopefully, Berkeley will take me back for a masters degree.

I changed the logo.  I found a vector graphics crown, so I used it.

Should I change my profile logo here, or do people prefer you keep the same picture since they recognize it?

Got me a new logo/avatar!

Ok, I made myself a new logo and avatar.  The one from yesterday was specifically for my Autocad portion of my website, so I made another one for general use.
