Back when we had the lunar eclipse in April, taken with my aging Canon A720is at full magnification, (optical + digital):

I wish I'd had my new camera, Olympus SH-60:

Both taken handheld.

Mountain texture.jpg

This is a screenshot of a panorama of the mountains north of here that I made yesterday of shots taken immediately before then. In spite of the panorama being made just after, I could not reshoot them when some of the sections were unusable. Sic transit gloria mundi. Let me know if you want the full-resolution panorama. It is 17 MB in size, I will provide a link to a site where you can download it.

My view from the deck on the back of house...

^ in my dreams this is exactly what the view from my place would be like  :-*  (first replace sewer pipe with jetty)
I am so in love with this view, hamradio. Is it Watauga Lake?

It doesn't matter. The big thing in these pictures is the sky, not the ground.

There's a wildfire somewhat nearby that is currently spreading about 1.5 miles every 8 minutes. This is probably due in large part to it being over 100 degrees F today, with strong ~12mph winds.

I didn't know it (the smoke) was so close until I came into my office and saw that the light shining onto the curtains from the windows is all brown/orange, making it look like sunset. I looked out the window to see this:

It looked like sunset at 5PM:

It is, but there's a fairly large river between us and the fire. I'm pretty sure it won't jump the river. But there are people in the path of the fire who are being evacuated.

So while I'm probably safe, there are people being affected by this. :(

Here's a video of firefighters (unsuccessfully) trying to keep it from jumping over the highway:

08-02-15 Layered mountains - small.jpgShow us the View Outside Your Window

This is a screenshot of a panorama made from a series of pictures I took a month and a half ago, but didn't think to make a panorama of until today. I call it "Layered mountains".

^ very nice Arizona

and the panorama is very cleanly made.

PS taking a screenshot of an image is a great idea - nice easy way to resize an image for the forum

08-02-15 Layered mountains - Autostitch.jpgShow us the View Outside Your Window

The previous panorama was made with Microsoft ICE 2.0.3.0. This panorama was made with University of British Columbia AutoStitch 2.2. It produced an image using sections of the mountains to the right of the ones used in the Microsoft image. If you want, I can upload the original pictures for you to experiment with other panorama programs. The view made with Serif Panorama Plus was essentially the same.

08-02-15 Layered mountains2 - small.jpgShow us the View Outside Your Window

The previous Microsoft panorama was made with Pictures #1 & 2 of the series. This view was made with #3 & 4 of the series. A screenshot of picture #5 is below. These are provided in case anyone wants to try manually merging them with Photoshop( I don't have that). I think that if I had thought of making a panorama then I could have produced one that combined the whole area.  :-[

I can whack them into AutoPano and see what the result is if you like, it gives you very fine grain control over image pair points if the automatic mode falls a bit short.

AutoPano would only detect two panoramas using the first two and second two images, (1441 wasn't included), so cropped and rendered both to TIFF.
Then forced it to include the second panorama and a cropped 1441 in a panorama and edited the control points, rendering out the result to TIFF.

Finally, forced it to include the first panorama and third panorama, edited the control points (the perspective/focal change and not much contrast didn't give a really good optimisation) to end up with the final result:

All five images.jpgShow us the View Outside Your Window

I'll upload the final TIFF (~48MB) to OneDrive and send you a link if you like.

I believe I have posted links to 2 collections of sunsets which have sunsets as colorful as that.  Should I re-post the links?
