Battlefield Heroes
« on: July 10, 2008, 09:38 AM »
Battlefield Heroes is a free game being developed by dice who made also made BF2 which I know some of you guys have played. It is basically a unrealistic version of Battlefield 1942 with cell shaded graphics (Cartoon graphics). It is gonna come out some time within Q2 this year (summer).

Website: http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/
Hilarious trailer: http://www.battlefie...release-announcement
Screenshots: http://www.battlefie...roes.com/screenshots
Theme music: http://www.battlefie...-music-and-user-bars

We really need to play this game when it comes out :D

 ;D ;D
That really looks like fun!
The trailer is great, and if it's made by the same guys that made BF2, it probably has a great playability and lots of action :D

Great trailer, I love the TPB bittorent reference, and the graphical style looks lovely! :-*

I know, I don't get why people say cell shaded graphics are bad

I hope someone will post in this thread when that game comes out, I really look forward to playing it :D

Also interesting is their bussiness technique with this game, the are going to use microtransactions for people who want to buy customizations and stuff like that.

PS: we'll have to organize some battles here on DC! :P

I just recently acquired a beta key, and I most say. I am enjoying this game. It wasn't quite what I expected but I was positively surprised. It has a semi steep learning curve tho, expect to get raped in the first 3-5 matches

Edit: It has buyable weapons like most other free online shooters, but the twist here is that you can spend 5 times as much on a weapon and acquire it forever.

Game looks great.

Real money for in-game advantage doesn't.

+1.  I'm not as much of a stickler over this if you can get the advantage for free also.  Which is I guess one of the reasons I don't really care that much about gold farmers (other than the advertising tactics they use, and the underhanded methods they use to get gold at times).  If you can trade time for money, I don't see the problem.  It's when money gives you and advantage you can't get otherwise that I get hot under the collar.

And isn't battlefield heroes ad supported?

UPDATE - did a bit of research. They don't say it's ad supported, so that may have changed since I last looked at it.  And they had this to say about the money for items bit...

We won't be publishing a list of items at this time. But suffice it to say the following:
We don't plan on letting players buy a gameplay advantage, like bigger/better weapons for "real" money.
What you will likely be able to buy are items like clothing, cool looking things and fun stuff.

I guess at this point I'll take a wait and see attitude, but it is EA...

The only real "advantage" paying players have is the ability to buy increased XP and increased Currency income. This doesn't translate to better weapons and crap tho. So ingame everyone is equal

Battlefield Heroes is out of beta. Even if you're not gonna play it you owe it to yourself to watch the intro they have on their site.

Just watched the intro....had a very "G.I. Joe cartoon from the '80s' feel to it.
