Sherlock Holmes and Texefex
« on: January 01, 2007, 07:53 AM »
" Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip. After a good dinner and a bottle of wine, they retire for the night, and go to sleep.

Some hours later, Holmes wakes up and nudges his faithful friend:
-
"Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."

"I see millions and millions of stars, Holmes" replies Watson.

"And what do you deduce from that?"

Watson ponders for a minute.

"Well, astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe. What does it tell you, Holmes?"

Holmes is silent for a moment. "Watson, you idiot!" he says. "Someone has stolen our tent!"

:D

The program is Texefex from Blacksun and is $20

Happy New Year!  :-*

We thought this was a crazy spam post before we checked out the link to the text colorizing software.

That company has some interesting soft.
Here's a free one on their page that people were looking for a while ago:

Mousotron keeps track of how much you move or click your mouse.
Also the number of keystrokes is measured.

Mousotron is basically just fun, but it can also be a very handy tool in RSI prevention (Repetitive Strain Injury) or the rehabilitation of it.

You can also post your scores online automatically and compare with other users.

Too soon to tell the answer, isn't it?  - the week-end is only at the beginning... 8)

However, I should mention and apologize that there has been some colour distortion in picture #2 - they are still pretty close to the original, but they are not the exact colours anymore.

The hole is there because the figures aren't the exact same size/shape, it's a pretty old trick.

For the second pic, same color, brain trick :-*

Right, the key is that the 2 triangles are not similar.  They're close, but not exact, so the long diagonal line formed by the 2 long sides of the triangles is not straight.

The weekend is over by now, at least here in Denmark, so it is time for the explanation - and it was given by both f0dder and mwb1100. Peter Bowie explains:

The four parts in the picture above appear to be a triangle, but they are actually not.
The angles in the red and green triangle are slightly different, but hardly noticeable.
You can calculate this by dividing the height and width of these triangles.

So, when you move these parts around, you get a different shape.  These two shapes look
like large triangles but they are not.

The long line in the upper 'triangle' is bent downward a little
The long line in the lower 'triangle' is bent upward a little and the difference in total surface is exactly one square.

Hope it makes a bit sense now.

I was almost panicking myself, even though I meet at 18:00 rather than 06:00 :)

Heh, I haven't exactly kept my site up to date, I know. Haven't had time to write up new stuff for it... and the last fSekrit version (1.2) was released 15. September 2006 :-[ - embarrassing that I didn't get around to releasing v1.3 yet, my changelog.txt does have a "release date" for it though (15Oct2006), so I dunno what went wrong :-[ :-[ :-[, hope to get  v1.3 polished up soon.

I happened across a full explanation of Curt's triangle puzzle here and thought I'd post it just 'cuz it's a lazy Friday night and it's a bit slow around here (or is it just me that's slow? Don't answer that one, Ralf):
