Searchme - another visual search attempt

(1/2) > >>

nudone:
here's another Search Provider attempt to return visual results of pages found (i'd guess to be picked up by google if it has any success).

it has a nice way of doing it.

As someone involved in search lately, I was quite sceptical that this was a gimmick.

But the visual angle does help spot that pages are not what you want - and you can indentify spammy sites right away.
It is still slower than skimming text but it certainly could have a place in the search toolbox

Lashiec:
Oh, it's finally open to the public. I wanted to try it as soon as I saw the review on Ars Technica, very slick, not as fast as searching with Google by a long shot, but it has its advantages.

BTW, should I be worried?

Translation: Security warning: You are just going to go to an address that contains an username. (Address details). Are you sure you want to go to this address? I clicked no, of course, the "crossdomain.xml" didn't sound too good, but perhaps I was a bit too skeptical

If I remember correctly, Google has been testing new ways of show searches using Flash and visual previews. Ah, here it is, remove the "flash" part in the URL if you want to use the non-Flash version. Note that the Flash version does not work with Opera :(

Armando:
Isn't it the same as the viewing option the Mac's OSX (leopard) finder offers?

Veign:
Seems like it would be a very inefficient way to look through results.  What the current search providers (Google, Yahoo, MSN) do is for a reason, it works.

Might be fun to play with once but not for everyday use...
