Hey there Rowan! Good to hear that it runs on W7.

The icon had wrong proportions I suspect. I edited them to be 32x32. So try the attached version (just copy over the old tv_out.icl).

You should be able to permanently use completely different icons by saving two of them as tv_out.icl ( IconSushi is the tool I use for that -- http://www.towofu.net/soft/e-index.php ) and then replace the standard tv_out.icl file with the new one.

Sorry about the very delayed response (I distract easily). Thanks for the new icons, I'll try them right away.

Still no dice with the new icons. It's not a very big deal. It must be something with Windows 7 beta. I'll try again when the release candidate is out.

Cheers,

Hi, you might need to refresh the icons after replacing the file. Try right clicking the desktop shortcut icon, properties > change icon (on XP; I guess there's something similar on W7), the new icons should come up as default, select one of them. Then the desktop icon also changes. Do the same for the other icon. Then the change should stick. If that doesn't work try to reboot once. If that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas ;D (And don't forget that the new .icl should overwrite the old - you can't give it another name or put it in another folder.)
I'm also attaching a less colorful icon.

Howdy,
Nope. Same out come, I'm afraid. When I go to the shortcut's properties and select "Change Icon..." I get the following error:

The file D:\Zero\tv_out\tv_out.icl contains no icons.

Choose an icon from the list or specify a different file.

I am assuming it has summat to do with Windows 7's handling of icons and .icl's.

I just realize that I neglected to include that I am using the 64-bit Beta. At the time I wouldn't have thought it at all important.

Anyway, as I said, it is no big deal. But I do greatly appreciate your taking a stab at it.

Hm, ok try this updated version:

tv_out v090330: ini option for custom icons
http://nod5.dcmembers.com/tv_out.html

Generate a new tv_out.ini by deleting the the old one and then running tv_out.exe. Then edit the new tv_out.ini: add paths to whatever single icon .ico files you'd like to use. Let me know if it works in W7!  :tellme:

Hey there,
It worked like a charm! Thanks so much. I appreciate all the extra effort.
It's one thing to make a great script like this but quite another to respond so quickly and completely to random support issue for a beta OS.

Again, Thank you.

Great that it works!  :) Knowing that tv_out is fully compatible with W7 will make the future move to W7 a bit easier, at least for me  8)

I think I'll use two separate .ico icons as default for the next tv_out version. Then other W7 users won't have to tweak the .ini to get icons working.

Wow is this really as useful as it seems??!!
I have recently changed some stuff to do with my graphics card. It all began when games were going blank for no apparent reason ... long story but in the process I had to ditch using Ati Tray Tools.  I had a hotkey set up to switch to TV mode fast through that program and now I am lost.
I google my idea: A simple shortcut, maybe batchfile or something to do this.
Am I glad your little app came back in the results because this is better than ever!
Thank you so much.

GimmeAreason: Great that you like it!  :) I also used to use Ati Tray Tools but felt that it had too many features for me - I only ever used it to switch extended desktop on/off. So I made a script for that instead.

Tip: check out tv_out's "sibling" ExtDesk: http://nod5.dcmembers.com/extdesk.html

hi there and a big thank you first of all.
i´m here using win7 (build 7600) and having little trouble in using tvout.
obviously the tool (used in default, having cmd line parm "toggle_onoff") assumes the first display to have to be used as primary while the second one is only used for desktop extension.
unfortunately my nvidia ion drivers set the first monitor beeing my projector connected via dvi and my pc monitor via vga beeing the second. this works in win7 when configured as using display 2 beeing the primary monitor ok unless i use the tvout.exe which only toggles the secondary display (which is my "primary" pc monitor) beeing enabled or not but the projector is always set the windows primary display from the first launch of tvout on ;-(
additionally i was unable to find the command line parms possible...
dear nod5, could u please help? , probably you could extend the tool via cmdline parameters:
-set which display has to be the first, which the extended
-set enable extended desktop / clone display
many many thanks to you and your helping hands ;-)
cheers, LX

Hi lxb and welcome to DC! I don't have win 7 so I can't run tests on that OS.

Try if this works (it presupposes that you have autohotkey installed): open tv_out.ahk in a texteditor, on line 14 & 20 change from "DISPLAY2" to "DISPLAY1". Then save and run tv_out.ahk to generate a desktop icon, test if doubleclick on desktop icon toggles the projector on/off. Let me know if that works or not.

I don't know any way to toggle clone mode on/off from AHK, sorry.

Did you doublecheck that the desktop icon pointed to the new tv_out.ahk that you edited (and not to the old default version)?  :tellme: If that wasn't it then I don't know what to do. Because when I change the code to DISPLAY1 as described above then I get the desired result on my Win XP machine. I'm sorry to say that I don't have time to look for other solutions for this at the moment either, but let me know if you find a solution on your own and then I'll add it.
