Mouser thought you guys might be interested in our new "customized microPledge" service. Not too surprisingly, I agree. :-)

For a while now, microPledge has been helping fund various open source projects. But we're now also branching into the business world.

The basic idea is tailor-made versions of our funding system that businesses or organizations can use for their own products or features.

This extends easily to non-software products such as books and movies. For example, if a book publisher wants to get a feel for how popular a book will be before having to publish it, he can post a "project" on his book-tailored microPledge.

Potential readers can pledge money towards books they like. If a book's pledges reach a level the publisher's happy with, he goes ahead and does his publishing magic, and everyone's happy. (But if the target's not reached, he knows there wasn't enough interest, and nobody's lost anything.)

You can read more about all this in our blog entry at http://blog.microple....com/2008/04/custom/ or by looking at the attached PDF brochure.

If you're not interested in a customized microPledge, there's of course microPledge.com, which is our existing system that has a focus on open source software. Among other things, there have been quite a good Plone projects recently, started and developed by Nathan Aune. See http://micropledge.com/tags/plone

We've also added a simple developer API to microPledge that lets you create projects in an automated way, intended for use in bug-tracker plugins and suchlike.

Any feedback or ideas would be lovely. :-)

Cheers,
Ben.
