TacOnlyOne registry key detected as Trojan MalWarrior
« on: March 26, 2008, 05:06 AM »
Hello

Spybot Search & Destroy detects the registry key TacOnlyOne from Screenshot Captor as Trojan MalWarrior:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TacOnlyOne]
"Screenshot Captor"=dword:00010508

Seems to be a false positive because of http://www.appcontro....html?taconlyone.htm, but an internet search about the key gives only results related to MalWarrior.

No need to worry, check this thread out: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=12614

Added: the thread is only somewhat related, as there seems some providers have problems with a couple of DC tools and the way they're packed.

But still, I wouldn't worry.

And welcome to the site :)

This has to be in the running for one of the STUPIDIST antivirus false alarms.

TacOnlyOne is the most absolutely trivial harmless thing.

it's a registry entry used so that a program knows it should only run
one copy of itself at a time, thus the name.

any program thats flags things like this as a virus signature is engaging in the mostly lazy, shoddy, stupid, ignorant, irresponsible behavior.

any security program that blindly tags registry keys like this that having nothing to do with anything should be avoided and shunned.

ps. here is the programming library component TacOnlyOne, used by a lot of programs, which are now all going to be triggering this stupid brain dead alert:

http://www.appcontro...trols/taconlyone.htm
(i see now that Don surmised this was the source in his original post -- yes i can confirm this is what is being flagged)

Good work spybot for showing you guys are just blindly adding stuff without paying the slightest bit of attention to what you are doing.  Really inspires trust and confidence.

Update your SpyBot, I just checked and no longer detects the RegKey, so they fixed the issue.

And, what, you're against that for some reason?  ;)

ps. for the students of humour: i would have given you four laughing smilies if you had instead said "And, what, you're against that all of a sudden?"

I tried to update Screenshot Captor and McAfee said they deleted MalWarrior and I could not run S.C. after that. They added MalWarrior on 4/8/2008. I let them know about it.

Yep.. they did it again.  More details about the new false alarm here: https://www.donation....msg109536#msg109536

Thanks for contacting them.. Hopefully if enough people complain they will get their act together.
