FARR alternatives?
« on: February 29, 2008, 03:10 AM »
Ok so far I tried Launchy which I liked but inexplicably stopped working.

Haven't had much luck getting FARR to run smoothly and want something simple I don't have to muck about with too much, can anyone recommend another launcher?

if Launchy and FARR dont work maybe there's something you've got to sort out on your side :-\

If for some inexplicable reason one decides to try other programs, the FARR help file has a huge list of similar programs at the end of it  :D

Try SlickRun, as far as simple launchers go, it is great. I introduce it to people as a gateway to FARR later on ;)

Evaluating Keybreeze right now, which seems pretty quick so far, but I miss FARR's weighting options...

figure out which shortcuts are causing farr to freeze and let me know so we can figure out what's going wrong.

to help you figure it out, check the option to show subdirs while searching:

oops I've uninstalled FARR already whilst giving keybreeze a shot (nice so far but fugly)...

Pretty damn certain it was whilst searching my desktop which has links to various network folders and a network drive it was freezing (like I said, network is not online at the moment)

you could have just told farr not to search your desktop.

yeah.. was kinda inconvenient tho to be honest, lot of handy shortcuts on there...  seemed to be hanging on another folder full of links I made for 'Launchy' too, be nicer if it just learnt to avoid dead links or something?  Thanks ;)

that's what's a little weird -- FARR has code to avoid network links so this doesn't happen, but maybe there is something different about one of your links that is fooling it -- that's kind of why i'd like to know which shortcut(s) are confusing it.

Yeah that fixed it! .. I removed the folder with launchy shortcuts in it and the problem has gone.  Bit annoying cos they're useful links and Launchy didn't have a problem with them, but I'll soldier on with FARR for now anyway...

Oh incidently - just to be a keyboard bore, it would be well convenient if 'tab' took you straight to 'Post' on this quick-reply ;)

cheers!
