Homesite or BBEdit Replacement
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:50 AM »
I know that a topic similar to this has been posted in the past but I have slightly different needs when it comes to a replacement for Homesite and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations - free or commercial? I used to use BBEdit on a Mac and also really loved that application - a windows replacement for that would probably work for me just as well.

Loved Homesite for its ability to edit files remotely on a server and multiple files could be updated and saved at one time online. The file browser in Homesite is a window that you can dock beside the file you are editing and hitting save is enough to update a file on a server (rather than a separate interface for ftp). However, it doesnt have SFTP capabilities and that has become more of a necessity.

I would be looking for a replacement that could do the above, have standard regular expressions for search and replace, Auto Backup so if PC crashed the last temporary saved version of the file could be recovered. I code pretty much in PHP/HTML/CSS and I imagine most editors out there handle syntax highlighting for those.

Any ideas?

I do not know if it will meet your requirements, but HTML-Kit Tools might. If not, check out the hundreds of plugins for it. They might fill the gap. I have used HTML-Kit and find it a very worth application.
