Fast View
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:59 AM »
http://f2soft.ax3.net/

Yeah, it's fast but could be better in the options.
Like I would like the file I'm viewing to be highlighted in the left pane.
It is displayed in the title bar though.

Can't seem to change the background color when viewing files.

But quite a plus in the range of files that can be viewed!
Text, pics, videos, web stuff...lots of things.
Quickly too.

I set the menu/options buttons to quit hiding, that was annoying.

Please feel free to add any other fast viewers to this thread if you like.
That's why I put a space in the Title -Fast View- instead of Fastview which it is called.

This is a great review on Fast Stone's MaxView by jgpaiva.

https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=12089.0

MaxView out performs Fastview with pictures in speed.
I haven't tried MaxView with any other type of file.
Another thing on my list to do.

Fastview may be trying to do too much.
With it's Multimedia setting it does not read some documents and files correctly. Namely Ashampoo's TextMaker docs. Though it does fine with MSWord docs. Also some files come up as the code instead of the file you want to see.

Still playing with it and on the lookout for others that can perform.

Sometimes boredom can make for great discoveries, ha.

Just started playing with ImageWalker - a fast/lightweight image management and viewing application that runs on Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. It can read the following file formats: BMP, GIF, ICO, JIF, JNG, JPG, KOA, LBM, MNG, PCD, PCDS, PCX, PNG, PNM, RAS, SUN, TGA, TIF, WBMP, WMF and writes GIF, JIF, JPG, PNG, TIF.

Screenshot:

screenshot.jpg

Features:
  • See you images in their full glory: Edit, view and slideshow images in full screen mode.
  • Automatically scan metadata information (e.g., size, date taken, exposure or aperture) or add your own keywords and descriptions to keep track of your photos.
  • Work the way you want: ImageWalker will index images for speed in any folder and does not force you to keep images in an enforced folder structure.
  • Save time: manipulate and print multiple images at a time using batch functions.
  • Preserve photo quality by using Non destructive (lossless) JPEG rotation and crop.
  • Upload images to Flickr: preserving description and keyword information while registering the images flicker ID in local image metadata.
  • Generate HTML web galleries for displaying images on your web own site.
  • Preview and view RAW image formats with full colour management support for ICC and ICM profiles.
  • Runs great on slower computers and Unicode compliant
  • And best of all...its FREE for home use

This one uses two windows.
One for the explorer and one for the view.
Great for dual monitors.
Of course it works fine on a single monitor also.

In my search for a plugin to view TextMaker documents saved as .tmd instead of a format that FastView could read. I came across this viewer from TextMaker which is a viewer for text docs for like 5 different office programs. Like Open Office, TextMaker, Word and a few couple more.

Though it didn't help with FastView, it is a good viewer for docs not saved in a format that you have a program for, if it's needed.

The thing I like most about FastView after 3½ days is the power to rapidly view the content of a lot of files of various formats, one after the other, without opening all sorts of file viewers. Other than that, I suspect I will use FastView quite seldom.

Yes, I don't know of another program like it yet.

It uses Total Commander plugins of which you can even build your own.
I've also found that if you click on the pic or doc it will be highlighted in the explorer.

As far as reading docs it seems to read the .rtf files but not some other document formats.

You can double click any item in the explorer part of fastview and it will open in it's default application.

The viewer from Textmaker -officeviewer-is much faster then opening MSWord. If it's set to being the default viewer for Word or TextMaker, Fastview can use it also.

Btw, these are all free or free for personal use so far in this thread.

I really like that Imagewalker and ForceVision too, very cool imo.

I tried the ForceVision too, and there sure were some fine features, but ind the end we didn't make friends with each other. ImageWalker is fine too, and makes me wonder: just how big / small is a thumb's nail? Anyway, I like this version of the Thumbnail's view:

- click thumbnail (!!) to see full sized ImageWalker > Thumbnail's View:
thumbnails.jpgFast View

It sure makes room for a lot of nails, doesn't it...

I like this one but it looks like it is not under developement. Do you know any other one that is multi format viewer like this one? I "am not" looking for a viewer that only does multimedia stuff. And as usual I am looking for DC "user experince"  based suggestions.

kartal, what I seem to have the best luck with is ACDSee. It can view almost any graphics and video format while doing it with a pleasant user interface.

Total Commander can do it, too, but I'm pretty sure you aren't that hard-core about your files. :)

Innuendo,

I am actually not looking for an only "multimedia viewer", I need an any viewer, html, mht, documents, pdf, jpg, movies etc. I use Xyplorer`s viewer it works nice however its interface design iss not really suitable as a full "viewer". It is only good for quick content check.  I also use Fastview but it is buggy, certain interface stuff bugs me. I tried Universal Explorer but that one crashes on my system.

I tried TC but it could not show .mht(compressed web files) files which I use frequently.

BTW, the next version of XYplorer (8.10) will have a full screen preview for HTML, MHT, URL, NWS, EML, and MSG files in perfect original size quality.

DonL, it sounds great. I personally prefer left side browsing right side document viewing but full screen view might accomodate the current XYplorer layout. Thanks for development. Xyplorer keeps getting better.

FYI, XY's full screen mode supports walking through the current list using PageUp/PageDown.

Would not it interfere with pdf or html browsing though?

Sounds great!
I looked recently for 'viewer' in the XY forums but couldnt find anything and was thinking I'd start a thread about it - plans(?), wishes(!) but didnt get around to it so far.

I may as well say my spiel here -
I'd love to see a viewer that would
  • show files in the order they are sorted (no slideshow, just some key to move on or back) - which sounds like what you've planned
  • allow easy zooming in to selected area (I can see this could be problematic if you're showing so many different formats) e.g. Ctrl+Drag to select area to zoom in - or Ctrl+mousewheel, but that usually doesnt allow zooming into particular area - could be really great if it zoomed into where the mouse arrow was

I dont think there's any file manager with the combination of those two in it's viewer (maybe DOpus 9, I havent tried that)

If TC does not work properly for you (it can show MHT files in lister but there are no thumbs for them), maybe try something like Universal Viewer:

http://www.uvviewsoft.com/

It can handle many file types by its own but if you're missing something it can handle TC plugins too. The only bad thing I can say about it: free version does not have thumbnails browser built in. Though it is still great tool.

P.S. I've just checked it: UV shows MHT using IE control (I assume that XY does it in the same way).
