We've had a very long running and popular discount for donationcoder members on BB FlashBack,  a screencasting program that got good reviews in our 2005 review of such programs.

Since that review, Camtasia (a competing product) has come out with some very nice new features (but remains very expensive).  Well now it's time for BB FlashBack to get a major update it seems.

The people at Blueberry, the company that makes BB FlashBack, has asked me if there might be DonationCoder members who would like to help betatest their new version 2 release.. I said I would be happy to find out smiley

Here's the info:

Quote
"BB FlashBack is a Windows based screen recording application designed
for creating, editing and publishing screencasts. Previously reviewed by
donation coder, the brand new BB FlashBack 2 is due for early early this
year. In prepairation for this, Blueberry Software is looking for beta
testers who would like to give this new version a try and report any
bugs found. New features include webcam recording, zoom and pan, action
button and a precision sound editing interface. To register interest in
being a beta tester please contact fb2beta@bbsoftware.co.uk giving your
name, location and contact details.

We now have a feature-freeze on FlashBack until after the offical release of
version 2, so what we're mainly looking for is bug reports found in
general-usage testing. Seconardary to this: user feedback on the GUI and
ease of use is welcomed, as if there was something we got a lot of
matching feedback on GUI wise , we'd consider changing it."

So there you have it, send an email to fb2beta@bbsoftware.co.uk and sign up to test it, and give them some constructive feedback!
Let us know what you think too, when the final version comes out.

ps. let them know you are coming from DC.

Mouser I tried to e-mail them but the e-mail address doesn't exist. The reason is because you have two different e-mail addresses in your message.

In short, you forgot the F at the beginning of the address underneath the quote.

I sent an e-mail to the address in the quotes and it went through this time.

I got the free Camtasia 3 deal posted here a while back....and while it has more features than BB Flashback, I much prefer BB Flashback.  So I purchased it (well technically my company purchased it).  In my opinion, it's just a more intuitive, more polished, less confusing app to use compared to Camtasia.  The features that I felt were really missing in BB Flashback v 1.5 were added in 2.0 (fade in/out transition of callouts and ability to add hotlinks to web urls).  So while I had a free app in Camtasia....I ended up springing for the $100 (after DC Discount) on BB Flashback.  Actually, my company ended up paying...but you get the idea.  I have yet to provide feedback to BB on 2.0 beta but I only found a couple of small issues with it (fade in/out issue with low frame rate recordings and serious increase in filesize (like 4 to 5 x the file size) when zoom/pan is introduced).

Also, I liked that when I purchased the BB Flashback full version....they continued to offer me the (DC Member) half price discount that came with my lite version purchased a year before.  Overall....I've yet to be disappointed with this app.  That said, test drive it first (and Camtasia) since it doesn't have every feature Camtasia has.  And while those extra features may not be important to me, they may be deal breakers to you.

I just sent an email to Blueberry about the beta testing.

Thanks for the heads up, mouser!   smiley
