PDF to DOC converter?

(1/1)

rjbull:
I just hit a PDF I needed to extract details from.  PDFtoText (from the XPDF suite) gave a text file containing two page feeds; Acrobat Reader gave a zero-byte text file.  That bodes ill for any other software on that particular file, but it made me wonder again about finding something else that converts PDFs to a more amenable format.  Various PDF-to-Word DOC and other format converters exist; please, does anyone have any experience or recommendations?

Thanks in advance...

if you just want to copy some text off the PDF then you can run the file through PDFTK which will remove most of the restrictions. like yourself, i've yet to come across a reliable 1:1 converter.

There's an article here http://desktoppub.about.com/od/pdfextractionsofware/PDF_Extraction_Software.htm that lists several programs that can extract information from pdf files.

Why bother looking for and installing any software for document conversion?

Go to ZamZar, http://www.zamzar.com, upload your PDF, choose 'doc' as the output, enter your email address, wait for an email.

There's also Media Convert, http://media-convert.com/, but they don't do PDF->DOC, (PDF->RTF and others though).

How successful the conversion will be will probably depend on the originals complexity but it probably won't be any worse than a dedicated program on your machine.
