Deep paint or alternative natural media painting software
« on: January 31, 2008, 09:25 AM »
images.jpgHello we used to work with Deep Paint 2, which was released as freeware by Right Hemisphere. However without communication on the issue both download.com and RH have removed the link. Any freeware site either doesn't have the program or links to these two sites.
Which leads to the following question:

Would there be a demand for a service based on Amazon S3 which would host freeware versions of apps so that they would be available for ever without breaking the licensing terms?

But additionaly I'm looking for a replacement software for natural media. I know coral painter is the main app, and there's Artrage, I'm not going to use it with a tablet and would like the interface to be easyier rather than powerful - and Paint.net or photoshop is not what I'm looking for ;-) Would be good if it was free but not essential.

Threads I found:
Review: ArtRage 2.2 (free and full versions) - Updated with 2.5 info
Search results for 'last freeware'

Well, it should come as no surprise that I heartily endorse ArtRage (I wrote the review you linked to).

Another good one to check out is Artweaver http://www.artweaver...index.php?en_version

Maybe also try the new Ambereh from sourceforge:

Ambereh is a simple and easy-to-use drawing application with online and offline capabilities.

In online mode, you can chat and share the same canvas with your friends, allowing you to make a cooperative painting. There is no need for a central server: Ambereh works with a decentralized network, where any user can connect to any other user already in the party, and everybody will see and interact with everybody's drawings.

In solo mode, you have a great set of tools for artistic drawing, like anti-aliased brushes, brushes with custom bitmaps, full opacity support, circles drawing, auto-circles for softening edges, blur and smudge for giving the detailed touches for your sketch!

In both cases, you also get the ability to record all the steps taken in your drawing, so later you can replay the whole process and watch your painting coming to life: from the blank canvas to the final masterpiece!

If you wich to paint on 3d models, you can use Thirdbrush which can create bmp, jpg and dds textures, without needed 3d software. Just mouse or stylus needed.

Take a look at Wizardbrush and Photopainter www.eusoftware.com

They're inexpensive (US $30) and trailware versions are available.

Gertrudis offers advanced programs with very precise brushstroke emulations.
The results can even be rendered at any resolution.($67-95; free trials)
