I really like Renegade's fav, but my all time favorite is this guy...

... he is never fully satisfied with his work, but he never gives up trying! <cheesy grin>  This is especially poignant at this moment because I am struggling with a composition in Finale even as we speak.

Although it is not my favorite and there are few opportunities to use it, I don't think there is another smilie that captures the true essence of the character portrayed than this one...
Anyone who has ever had to work with or around the Secret Service folks will know what I mean!  Brilliant!

In the "FWIW" department, this happy fellow... ...is the persona of a friend from high school (Hey!  Terry Z., are you out there?).  Keep in mind that was 1975! <cheesy grin>

I use these three a lot:

 :o
 :-[

and

The first two because I am often either dumbfounded or embarrassed or both and the last because it's the best animation of sharing a quiet joke I've yet seen.

My favorite is actually a pair of them to be used together and for some reason they are not here...although I could swear I included them with the big bunch I gave mouser.

We need to include some of the newer ones present in other SMF forums, just not the animated versions.

I like the  one. Don't use it that much, but that's what I do IRL when I see something strange. And, of course, this :-[, I'm a person of many mistakes, just like the great number of "Last edit... by Lashiec" in my posts show ;D

I found the smilies I was talking about in the Simple Machines official forum. It's the animated version, though, which is a pity since I like the static versions better. I wonder if they're available somewhere...

These ones are particularly hilarious ;D

on a forum I manage i spent a stupid amount of time finding smileys, i have a list of about 70 which are great occasional smileys.

I found those in publicly shared smiley repositories so they should all, to my knowledge, be ok to use

my favorite:

 <img src="http://phoenix-guild...ys/default/llama.gif"/>

(although nosh's first choice is one i like a lot, and use a lot)

lemme see if i can figure out how to post a link

http://www.phoenix-g...dex.php?topic=5827.0

(this is also smf so i can package them and send them if someone wants them)

There's about 70 smileys there and if anyone wants to use them I have kept a list of the source for most so you can check if they are ok to use for yourself

On another forum that I am a member of, they have an insane amount of smilies.

The admins on the forum went on a mad quest to collect every smiley on the planet and add them to the forum...on a single page.

The collection was so huge that nobody wanted to use any because the page took way too long to load. The owner of the forum added 2 mods to make them more usable...one lists 100 per page and lets you jump from page to page with numbers at the bottom of the pages, and the other shows a random 10 below the quick reply box.

After those mods were added, the collection doubled within about 2 weeks. There is currently over 2400 of them.

We still don't want to go running through the full collection looking for what we want, because it still takes too long. Most of us will just pick the weirdest looking one that appears under the quick reply box, even if it has nothing to do with what we posted.

I snatched the full collection back in February (it may have grown larger since then) and gave them all to mouser. If anyone else wants the bunch, they are here (about an 8mb download): http://appsapps.info...tuff/v44-smileys.zip

Be warned: there are a lot of rude, crude, zany, freaky, political, religious, and sex related ones in the collection, and an unusually large number of sheep related ones (for reasons I won't explain).

Call me boring and old fashioned but I'm no fan of graphical smiley's. I prefer their textual equivalents. These I use most frequently:

:)
:p
;)
:P
:D

well, if you're talking text, I like the one I first saw f0dder using:
>_<
and these I use every once in a while:
0.o
o_0
for a while, I was using this one as a sig (because I wear glasses):
