Wiki Spam

(1/1)

mahesh2k:
There are many wiki pages are constantly being spamed. Some of the examples are of ultimate++ IDE's wiki pae Here in the image. There link for tutorial is spammed or is used for advertisement. As google ads are already appeared on their official page, the ads on the tutorial pages are supposed to be spam.

Wiki Spam

There are many "Get rich quick scam sites"/"Porn Sites"/"Get paid"/"Pharamacutical Ads" are displayed on most of the forums thread and on wiki pages. Many users with blogspot blogs are putting false content on the blogs for their adsense code.If you care for the such communities or good resources/forums/wikis then please notify these issues to respective community leads.

I think there's some kind of component for wikis to avoid this, Wikipedia rarely gets hit with those kind of spam robots, only by 'tards with too much free time in their hands >:(

I just restored a page recently on a really nice GTD wiki, related to time management/productivity software....and had to do it again just now as I was making this post.

Someone had wiped out the entire page and replaced it with a few spam links.  :(

Luckily, it was fairly easy for any visitor (like me) to find and restore the previous last spam free version. Unfortunately, it's just as easy for the spammers to wipe it out again & again.

I am just getting tired of having to do it. It seems like I should bookmark the page with the last good version and write a script that will automate the checking of the page every hour, identifying when it has been wiped out, and automatically restoring that last good version.  :-\
