however you have other options if you dont' want to remove the hd.
you could boot with a rescue disk (bartpe cd or ultimate boot disk or something similar), which would let you get to your files.  but then to copy them off your hard drive you would need a usb stick or an external usb drive.

Hi,

I found this link. I guess I am going to try the Knoppix. But before that I think I need to know how to change the BIOS settings.

At present I don't see anything coming up on my screen which would allow me to go into the BIOS Settings.

When I insert my XP installation CD following scrrens appear on my IBM ThinkPad:

1) To interrupt normal setup press Access IBM button or press enter key
2) On black screen - Press any key to boot from CD
3) On blue screen - Set up is being restarted

When I am not using any CD then it I see 1 and 3.

So I would like to know if I am anywhere near where I can go to the BIOS Settings.
