Wouldn't it be faily easy to give the option to be emailed when certain members have posted?

I think SETI's hit pay dirt with that transmission.

You can see any new posts from a particular poster by looking at their profile. Why not use a web watching app to tell you when their posts list page in their profile changes?

Hmm. Probably would be a candidate for an RSS feed with embedded links to the posts. [attachimg=#1][/attachimg]

I just used Ponyfish to create an RSS feed of my latest posts from the link in my profile.

my feed
http://www.ponyfish..../feeds/25434POcbzfGl

Ponyfish is pretty simple to use, but if you need any help, let me know.

OK I give up - how do you get PonyFish to do that? I have been fiddling for half an hour and haven't come close!

Can you walk us through the steps .... please

I don't understand your problem, Carol. Everyone knows that you did it the right way: Your feed is on PonyFish's frontpage!

Edit: But without an account the update frequency is merely 8 hours...

I'm still happy with app103's live webcam feed.

Though I'm worried that cat's gonna run out of toilet paper soon...

Yep - but if you look at that it isn't like the RSS feed app produced it is just my profile > Show posts list and nothing to do with PonyFish at all - it is just a link to https://www.donation...e;u=447;sa=showPosts

The feed I managed to produce from that URL was useless!

Oh, I didn't follow the link at first.

The idea behind PonyFish makes the service very interesting. But the low update frequency spoils it, when it comes to DC's forum. Even the 'gold' and 'platinum' will merely update per hour.

Ok...here is the step-by-step (click thumbnails to view full size):

1. Go to ponyfish.com and click the link that says "Create a feed now"

2. Go to the profile page of the user you want to make the feed for and at the bottom, click the link that says "Show the last posts of this person."

3. Copy the complete URL of that page to the ponyfish page and click 'Go'.

4. You will get a warning. Click the link that says 'continue using Ponyfish'.

SNAG-0244.pngSubscribe to certain posters

5. It will load the last posts page in a box.

6. Scroll down and locate the links you need to click and click them. They will be the end portion of each group of links. Do not click any other links on the page, but click all the end links for each group. There will be 25 links that you will click. Each one will be listed below after you click it. They should all lead to an actual forum post.

7. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click 'Continue'.  You will come to a page with some weird stuff in a box. Don't touch anything there. Just click 'Continue' again.

8. You should now see a page something like this:

If everything looks good, scroll to the bottom and click 'Finish'

9. You should now see a URL. This is the URL of your custom made feed. Copy & paste this to your feed reader.

And here we have a few more made for you, in case you have any more problems:

Cool. Now I can make an RSS feed of gri's posts and use that as a blacklist to filter them out.  :D

April - how does that work? The RSS feed collects stuff from the following template:

https://www.donation...rum/index.php?topic=*.msg=*#msg=*

I can understand from the way we chose the messages how this rule is derived but how will it update with only a particular user since u=<user id number> is not included as a parameter? Won't it simply update with any new messages from anybody?

How can it update with just anybody's messages if it will only update with messages from that user's profile page? Only 1 person's messages are on the profile page.

It isn't checking the whole site for links...only the specific page we told it to, which has the user's ID in it:

<title>Latest posts of: Carol Haynes - DonationCoder.com</title>
  <link>https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=447;sa=showPosts</link>
  <description>Latest posts of: Carol Haynes</description>

That URL will not change and it will only look on that page for the posts it will report on.

And it will only include the links from the repeating pattern we 'taught' it when we selected all the links that should be included in it.

It isn't based on the forum's feed data...it is based on changes to the profile page.

This service makes feeds for sites and pages that don't have feeds. It bases it on the actual page content, kind of how website watcher looks for changes, this does too.

Give it a try for a few days and you'll see that it works just fine.
