Finding exact URL
« on: October 06, 2005, 07:05 AM »
I tried UrlSnooper, it works.  But links extracted not work. Just for example, I find page that definitely contain URL to media stream.

http://www.mtv.com/s...nds/&adPN=audvid

1. What is URL to streaming video?(direct url, without intro video)?

2. I have attached screenshot. I don’t want accept this "upgrade". Is there a way find exact url of video stream file to view without a accepting an "upgrade"?

you are probably going to have to first upgrade to a media player which supports drm (license restricted files) and allow the mtv license to download.

you'll find several posts about recording stuff from mtv site here:

Since it hasn't actually linked to the file yet I can't see how you can find out what the URL is without the 'upgrade'.

If you don't like the way MTV works then my adivce is don't use it.

Presumably MTV have grown wise to people avoiding their advertising byt using sniffing software to download the file!

Since this is abnormal situation, we need normalize situation, and break this problem. Use UrlSnooper I can extract various stream links, but no any of them work,  i.e. download wmv file.
I tried also request with http ext via browser, no results..

for example:

rtsp://a1112.v00294.c10740.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1112/10740/v001/mtvnshrdstor.download.akamai.com/8646/_!/mtvi/bands/m/mc_hammer/its_all_good_full_416.wmv/stream=5

rtsp://a280.v00294.c10740.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/280/10740/v001/mtvcomstor.download.akamai.com/8601/_!/mtv.com/overdrive/vmas/2005/main_show/9_mchammer_full_416.wmv/stream=4

rtspt://a1936.v00294.c10740.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1936/10740/v001/mtvnshrdstor.download.akamai.com/8646/_!/mtvi/bands/m/milli_vanilli/girl_im_gonna_miss_you_full_416.wmv

and so on..
Just get alert: "Can no access file".  I've spent a lot of time and work to obtain links and no any result has reached.

What software are you using to try and download the file ?

On some sites you need to use the URL with arguments (not just the URL). In URL Snooper you can right click on the link and copy to the clipboard with arguments.

This rtsp links obtained by UrlSnooper, I just saved urls in txt file.
I tried download files via web browser(MSIE), by pasting saved stream's url in browser: http://a1112.v00294.....vm.akamaistream.net...
I just replace rtsp:// with http://
Pasting rtsp://  link in browser also not help, same result.

Normally, I use WM Recorder to record. But I need exact url, to use with this tool.

Try downloading StreamBox and using that to download the files to your hard disc. You can integrate it into URL Snooper so you just right click on a URL and hit StreamBox.

Problem is that streaming video files are DRM protected, which means that I can only play them on WMP10 for a day and than have to aquire licence again and again, again and again. Plus I canno burn it on CDR since internet connection required to to aquire licence..

So most vital task for music funs is to find way to remove drm from wmv files.
DRM isn't protection from piracy. DRM is protection from competition.
DRM breaks your technology and limits your access to content that you paid for, requiring you to pay more.
