Help me find a name for my reading/writing speed-up program
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:23 AM »
After reading mouser's threads on how important it is to find the right name for your applications, I decided to ask for help here.

I'm writing:
[...] a program that helps you read and write faster. It will use stats on what you read/write to help with autocompletion and to present words at the optimal speed. If everything works, it will even generate APML feeds with your attention habits:

http://apml.org
(From the main GOE 2007 thread)

How do you name such a thing?
I have been playing with variations of reading/writing/attention/saving/speed-up and they all suck :)

Thanks!

IF you have any other applications how are they called? Consistency is important too.

This is where Wordzilla's Free Thesaurus can help.  ;)

Try for words with similar meaning to rapid, fast, quick, speedy, etc.

Or try for words that suggest it...rabbit, jet, cheetah, rocket, etc.

Great stuff! I like JediType!
it's kind of difficult because it does two things, reading and writing speed-ups. Maybe these should be named differently and be independent somehow, although it kills the nice advantage of having them combined.

app, I do have Wordzilla's thesaurus! thanks for the suggestion!

Keep'em coming! I'm sure something great will come out of this thread!

Ralf: I think the martial arts idea is good too. I think it's Sensei (but still, it's just western alphabetization of a japanese character :), who knows! )

Justice, thanks for your suggestions too.

The problem is that there are 4 concepts (speed, attention, reading, writing) and the final name must be short! Hard!

Yes, eye for read; cue for prompting (a typing 'shortcut'); IQ for 'smarts'.

How about a take on Need for Speed... "Read for Speed" or simply, RFS!

If it was just a speed typing app, you could've named it... faptap. It rhymes, and you can do hilarious slogans. Like... "onehanded typing like a pro". And stuff.

For playing with combining words and ideas, try one of the tools for creating domain names.  You can have fun with it if nothing else!  A starting point is some of the links on Best Tool For the Job
