I know it usually receives howls of horror but I still use Outlook Express, mainly because I can use it purely as a newsreader from OutlookXP.
I tried Mozilla for a while but didn't really get on with and I have downloaded various clients but never really seen any reason to pay for one.

newsrover?.... ughh If you collect 1000's of posts it becomes unuseable. plus regular $10 fees for updates OE craps html into usenet and should be banned. Agent 3.0 is an excellent text newsreader. http://www.forteinc.comnewspro is the ultimate text newsreader with a learning curve to match. http://www.netwu.com/newspro/The newspro author has release usenet explorer which I hear good things about. http://www.netwu.com/ue/newsbin pro 5.0 is great for binaries. http://www.newsbin.com/newsleecher is the easiest for stealing software and useless at everything else. http://www.newsleecher.comTake your pick.

Not on my machine it doesn't. Granted the default for posting should be plain text. The only thing I think OE really needs are a bit more flexible rules and views - otherwise so long as you stick to text only, and block scripts (run it in restricted mode) and run in newsreader only mode it is fine for most people. There is also a lot of great support out there too via the MS usenet groups and site like www.tomsterdam.com

JP, how do you download and install one of the database engines? It keeps asking for authentication and ID/password info.

I am also an Outlook Express user. Works well for me and I spend alot of time in newsgroups. Tried others but always find myself liking the OE interface and functionality - might be a case of 'use what you know'.

Please expand a bit. Are you asking in reference to newsman pro which needs a database like mysql?

JP, yes with Newsman Pro. Whenever I go to download either the MS SQL Server DB or the MySQL DB, it wants login/pw authentication info I can't provide, making the product inaccessible for now.
Veign/Carol — I used OE for years as a newsreader and it works well. It's simple, fast, and familiar.

I still need to start beta testing Vista a bit more to see what the next version of OE is like. Actually going to fire it up now and see...

You should not get prompted for a login/password to download mysql. Try softpedia maybe: http://www.softpedia.com/...atabase-Utils/MySQL.shtml

I got it working, but after three days of use, found I didn't like as much as I thought.
