Yes, somewhere ("File types" or "Display"), there's must be a option where you select if you wish to show Winamp in the taskbar or not. I'm not sure because it's been a while since I used Winamp for the last time :)

- a while since the last time you used Wimap, or was "for the last time" intended? One or the other - it has improved a lot.

I will keep looking for the option. Thanks!

Yet again the answer was soo easy - all you have to do is to find it...:
"Options > Preferences...> General Preferences > Show Winamp in... > Taskbar / System tray
:-[

Well, problem solved.

A lot of time since I stopped using it, and a while since I tried it for the last time, as I moved to something else. Despite the improvements, I'm not moving back as I don't find nothing enticing in the new version.

Oh, you finally found it, looks they changed the location since previous versions :)

here's what I find winamp 5.5 has over foobar now:
1- autotagging (using cddb, fingerprinting). If foosic worked well, foobar could have something similar.
2- auto album art search (you can get this in winamp calling a 3rd party app, but it's a bit more convoluted).
3- musicIP recommendations (no way in foobar)
4- great album art handling. You can have this in foobar panelsUI, but in my experience the scroll was almost unusable (config: br3tt) and it was a constant waste of time to configure it just right.
5-library autorefresh (foobar 9.5 has this now)

[RANT][GRUMBLE]The Canadian dollar has been over 90 cents to the US dollar for the better part of a over a year now and at par since October, and yet DigitalRiver, who handle Wimamp sales, convert the $19.95 US to $27 Canadian for a Pro licence. There is no facility to change currency . WTF?[/GRUMBLE][/RANT]

Yes, I know, this is what Europeans and particularly Brits have been dealing with for years, but it still rankles

Note: I have gone back to musicIP. Searches are instantaneous there, whereas it takes 2.5 -3 seconds in winamp. The red is eyecandy.

Heh, heh - probably just as well that I'm having to hold off, then. I just like to support development. On that note, then, I think I'll explore making a donation to XMPlay, then. It's still my default player and what I use to play individual songs. If it had better playlist support, or at least made that support more convenient to use, I wouldn't be looking any further afield!

I got tired with Winamp growing fat and saying AOL all over the place, and removed my PRO version.
Revo counted the left-behinds: 1.783 registry entries and 22 files / folders !!!

ok testing it now, sound quality good, uses 32mb and 8.5 mimizimed. Seems good though.
Aimp uses 7mb and less than 3 minimized

Yes, it took 3 years to get from 5.5 to 5.6

-amazing, when you think of it. As an example, I have to come to "hate" Ashampoo because of their endless stream of major version upgrades, but Winamp is from another end of the universe: also updated very often, yet merely from 5.5 to 5.6 in 3 years!!! Now THAT is proper value for the money (for a license key)! I'll bet I am going to reinstall my PRO version quite soon! hahaha.

Just to share my finding and experience:

If you are like me, have a lot of mp3 song collection whose tag info are in multiple languages. (In my case they are English and Chinese Simplified, yours could be different, of course) then this freeware player:

TTPlayer from: http://ttplayer.qianqian.com/index.php

is a must have!!!

1. With few clicks, it can convert tag info of all songs in a folder (sometime I have more than hundred songs in a folder) base on your chosen codepage.  :-*

2. Its lyric search and control feature is so efficient that I can't even think of a better way.

3. It is so easy to extract into individual high quality mp3 files from an APE (with its cue file available).

In brief, every feature I need now and probably in the future is already in the program (that include auto-tagging, tag to file naming etc). I own a MediaMonkey Gold license, but I hardly use it any more due to unicode probelm and I am heavily rely on this free tool nowadays.

The only thing it lacks currently is, it can't really play DTS music file (e.g. some recent WAV file with surround musci effect)...

and

Unfortunately, because it is created by Chinese programmer it has Chinese user interface.
I have not search around for an English version before, may be it is available somewhere out there...

Wish I could see a waveform display of the track like on soundcloud.
