Of course, this is a fully working version. They are hoping a lot of folks upgrade to the latest version. The upgrade is $19.95 and still a good deal just as the Camtasia upgrade. To get the free download go here: http://www.oldapps.com/download.php...nagIt725.exeThen go here and enter your name, state, and email. They will send you the software key: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/ukdn.aspYou're all done! Be aware that it is version 7 of SnagIt...a very useful product. Current version is 8.2. Not sure if it has the nice 'scrolling capture' (something screenshot captor does, but fails on some applications such as opera) of the latest version.

What does this SnagIt do better than ScreenShotCaptor?

Nothing. [Mouser, the usual donation should cover this.]

SCC is very good and does some things that SnagIt can't do. The reason I use SnagIt though (sorry Mouser) is that I find the scrolling capture just works and is very simple to use - you can also capture more options (such as video) and output to a variety of places directly (such as Flickr).

i was already using SC for some time when this offer of free license came up so naturally i have to try out SnagIt. after about two weeks of usage, i don't see any extra set of features that swing things into SnagIt's way.. the auto-scroll still fails the Firefox test.. and btw mouser did approach the DC community about the video output and we all were not very keen on that.. • Should I add desktop screencast(movie) recording to ScreenshotCaptor?

Works fine for me on Firefox - not had any problems with Window scrolling (or region scrolling) with SnagIt. I also prefer the editor (for adding balloons, arrows etc) in SnagIt.
The big plus is redirecting output in SnagIt directly to Flickr and similar.

Oops sorry - I think the plugins for Flickr etc were added in version 8 (sorry can't be sure now - but if I was wrong before mea culpa). I never had scrolling capture problems in any apps with previous versions of SnagIt. Just checked - here are the output profiles (unfortunately they all refer to version : http://www.techsmith.com/...ssorycategory.asp?catID=1but there are other profiles which refer to version 7 including SKYPE (click on the links on the left to check them out and download them). Also check out the stamps and firefox extension - which include versions for SnagIt 7.

yes, i see that most of the newer plugins cater only for versions 8 and above but it's okay..
another quick question, how can i set hot-keys to capture different types of input? e.g. if i want to change from "Active Window" to "Menu" or something else, can i do it without going through the systray menu? btw, currently the "Global Capture" hotkey is set as Ctrl+Shift+P.

I don't know if you can do that. I have mine set up so that PrtScrn is the global capture hotkey. I don't think there are any ways to change the capture profile in use by hotkey. Personally I don't find that a problem but I would suggest AutoHotKey would allow you to script what you need fairly easily.
I think the lack of a hotkey system for choosing capture profiles is probably because the whole capture profile system is user editable and extensible.

lanux128, I don't remember exactly how to do it in version 7 and I am running version 8 and a beta of 9 so I can't check on my computer. However, I believe that it is the same in 7 as it is in 8 and 9. All you need to is to edit the profile and set the hotkey. You can create multiple profiles and each can have its own hotkey.
