BBed, a stand-alone BBcode editor that really works!
« on: October 23, 2007, 07:58 AM »
this is cool
I even like the fonts used by default!
And it indents! (UPDATE: Not in SMF forums bbcode)
The nice thing is that you can use shortcuts for example to link to places!

This is far from being the dreamed windows live writer for forum posts that I wanted, but it's good enough.
You can do the stupid font changes (UPDATE: Not in SMF forums bbcode) that some people like so much (i.e. internet marketers).

It has some nice editor features (like balancing brackets). Just pressing F2 gives you a preview of your post, saving you the pain of waiting a few miliseconds for a client/server interaction! :)

One thing I hate is that intellicomplete doesn't work on java apps, so I'm out of luck. Well, it doesn't work with opera either (damn opera closedness of hell!), so I'm not losing much.

This looks like one of those apps that stays always open in my desktop.
With any luck, my future posts will be better looking :)

The post does have a link, but it's not very obvious :)

And the screenshot, simply grabbed from the link:

I found yet another one, where intellicomplete works!
And it's .NET, not java...
But preview is a pain in the ass, and even worse, it has no keyboard shorcuts. You can find it here (note: the page is in arabic).
There's no documentation that I could find, although everything seems pretty evident.

The big pain in the ass is that to come back from preview mode, one has to click a tiny 'close' button. And it forgets the 'wrap' settings. Still, it can be pretty useful.

I'd like to keep posts in my HD, but it's a pain to name them properly.
When will someone write a WLW-like thing for BBcode?

Still, the basic functionality works. Not sure which one I prefer.
None of them can actually post to the forums. Having a a list of forums you post to handy ( bookmark-like or a la WLW) would be great!

ADDENUM: not even ctrl + c worked (!!!) had to click for that ... not getting any love from me.

I don't use a seperate editor, but I do use a Firefox extension called BBCodeXtra. It is one of the many extensions I use.
