Help with translating a video from Deutsch
« on: October 18, 2007, 06:43 PM »
This is very funny, but I don't speak the language.
Any takers?
One of the best pranks I have ever seen. It’s in German so I’ll explain first. A restroom, a mirror, and a young woman putting on make-up. Only the mirror is not a real mirror, but a sheet of glass.
The restroom on the other side is exactly the same but built in reflection. And the young lady has a twin sister on the other side of the glass. Then other people come in...

That's funny for you without understanding the language?
OK here you are.
I must say sorry i am not that good in english and i am tired from work

Here's an short overview:

WE OPEN THE DOOR AND WENT IN, SPEAKER FROM THE OFF:
An washroom
with wash basin,
mirror and a young lady doing the make-up.

But the mirror is no mirror but an glass plate

Behind the glass plate is the same washroom, flipped (mirrored) of course.

And the young lady is not one person but an twin.

-------------

00:40 i didn't see me????
Twin: Do not blame me!

00:50 that's odd. Do you see me in the mirror?
Twin: yes i can see you.

01:00 odd, but you didn't see yourself?
Twin: no, i do

01:30 ah, yes, i didn't see my hand!
01:40 stand on my place!
01:42 no, i see nothing...?

02:20 TWIN: excuse me, what's the time?
{quater past 4}
02:32 TWIN: did you have a problem?
odd mirror
02:42 TWIN: i can see you!!
No, i don't see ME.
02:45 Twin: Do not blame me!
hi hi hi

--------

03:13 TWIN: excuse me, what's the time?
my watch is broken, short past 4

03:22 the mirror wants to kidding me
03:26 TWIN: did you have a problem?
I don't see me in the mirror
Twin: Do not blame me!

 {guy went to the door and come back}

03:38 TWIN: he! that's a gorgeous "to give the eye" (Edit: i mean "that's a fine way" "to flirt", "to gallivant", "to philander" )
That's no "to give the eye"... i didn't see me!

{guy opens the door}
03:42 did you see me in the mirror
TWIN: yes!
I don't see me, that simple, no "to give the eye"
TWIN: perhaps you a vampire.

-----------

03:54 what's that a kind of mirror?????
04:00 one can see you but not me can i take your place
04:03 that's strange
{exchange}
04:15 that's is it. One can see you but not me.
TWIN: mmhh ha ha ha

04:24 i didn't had this undergone before
04:29 that's is it! I am unvisible! Not bad.
TWIN: can you see you?
No.
04:40 you can see me?
TWIN: yes

I can't see me!
(taking eyeglasses off)
04:45 TWIN: now you are gone again!

I want's to see how about this is for others.
04:58 (women taking eyeglasses on again slooowly)
TWIN: now i see you again!

05:03 i cam from an other planet, i think.
05:08 i didn't realize it, but something went wrong.

05:11 TWIN: take of the eyeglasses again!
(women taking eyeglasses off)
05:20 TWIN: no i see the coat only

05:25 take my place

05:34 i didn't had this undergone before
---

05:48 did see come back?
see forget something there...

06:04 TWIN: good bye
good bye

It was funny because I could imagine what people were saying by their faces, but I didn't expect what was actually said.
Thank You!

Well done Stephan  :)

haven't learnt that one: to "give the eye" -
you'd know I'm not single since I started learning german

And the poor woman with the glasses - she really got freaked I think
That they told her she could be seen when she had the glasses off  ;D
Cruel but brilliant ...

 :)
My translator means that's the same like the german: "Er hat ein Auge auf sie geworfen"

i.e. to flirt with someone

I found now additionally this translation: "to gallivant"

> you'd know I'm not single since I started learning german
to speak german help you here, yes?  :-* :P

My translator means that's the same like the german: "Er hat ein Auge auf sie geworfen"

literally means "he threw an eye on her"
[I suppose to say "I gave her the eye" could be construed fairly gruesomely as well :)]

"to gallivant"
dunno is that one used so much any more!
when we were growing up it used to be used like:
"what are you doing gallivanting all over town"
I never knew it actually meant like flirting - just thought of it like galloping or something!

from www.dictionary.com
1.   to wander about, seeking pleasure or diversion; gad.
2.   to go about with members of the opposite sex.
.
.
> you'd know I'm not single since I started learning german

eh,
that's the reason I'm learning german atall
