20$ off XYplorer and lifetime license
« on: September 26, 2007, 02:05 PM »
Hi,

I just had an exchange with XYPlorer developer. I was asking him if there was a possible discount for DC members.

He told me basically no because it is currently discounted for everyone :

Current price is $29.50 for a lifetime license.  This offer will end on Oct-09-2007.
From Oct-10-2007 onwards it will be $49.95.

So if you're interested...

There is a minireview in the review area.  First impression is very good (I am a Total Commander Fan).

That's great.  Thanks for the heads up.

I need to find time to try it sometime.  I am a xplorer2 fan.

I've got my license a few days ago!
Although not a fan of explorer replacements, I couldn't resist to XYplorer; It's a gem!

I have just downloaded and started trialing XYplorer, so I don't yet know anything about it, but I cannot see any picture preview thumbnails. Is this feature one of the 'trial limitations', or do I have to do something special? In the "Configuration" > "Thumbnails"  I have marked "Cache thumbnails", and all extensions in "Previewed Formats", and in XYplorer > "View" > "Cache"  I have clicked "Refresh Thumbs Cache" - but so far no thumbnails!

If the preview thumbnail feature is one the Trial Limitations, then this is "unlucky" (to put it mildly), because preview thumbnails is a very important reason for me   if I am to purchase XYplorer at all - so important that I simply won't buy it if I cannot first check out the feature...

But maybe "you" purchased XYplorer and can show some screenshots of the preview thumbnails in action?  :tellme: Please!

On my setup - you just select the file you want to preview and then select the Preview tab on the Info panel (just hit F12 if you don't see it):

Oops... as the above was loading I realised that you want this:

XYplorer thumbnails view.png20$ off XYplorer and lifetime license

Accessed via the context menu as shown.

Have fun!

EDIT: updated screenshot so that Views menu was expanded from context menu...

Thanks a lot, Darwin - I am not sure I ever would have figured this out myself, because it quite frankly seems a little strange to do it this way only, not having the option to do it via the normal settings in View or Tools. Even more strange I think it is, that one must db-click on the name of the image file, but not on the picture itself, in order to see the image in a ext. viewer. If picture A is marked, and I db-click picture B, it will open picture A. I find this feature really odd.

No problem, Curt! I love XYplorer - but admittedly, it has taken me quite a while to appreciate how powerful it is... Don Lessau, the developer, is really thinking outside of the box a lot with it, which I see as a strength. Look at the fact that his implementation of tabs, as opposed to a dual pane setup, once you get onto it is really as easy to use as a dual pane manager - easier in some respects. You can have two (or more) tabs open and drag a file or folder from one tab onto another and the file will be moved there, or you can select a file and bring up the context menu and select "move/copy/send to" - and then select the open tab or a folder from a list to send it to. Nice. Simple.

Thanks again again, Darwin.

I accidental learned that it has a very fine preview, if I click the image and keep holding down the mouse button. Nice!

Funny, Curt. That one doesn't work for me. I use the F12 key to toggle between the info panel and a full screen length file list. I almost always have Preview tab on the Info panel selected, wonder if this has anything to do with it? Anyway, can't reproduce that one, but it sounds sweet!

The feature curt mentioned (which i think is the one which originates the double-click problem curt mentioned in a previous post) is only available in thumbnail view, you probably use the details or the details + thumbnail view ;)

Very true! Just checked this out and you're right (I always use Details view) - it works in thumbnails view... Nice!

I guess what would be missing without dualpane would be some type of synchronisation?

EDIT

well, thats reassuring to hear -
would still miss some form of compare contents or basic synch possibilities

XYEplorer's tab initiative is marvellous!
I regret not seeing the preview in better slot position like Xplorer2 on the left or PowerDesk which has four options to choose from.

I've become disappointed with most of these Explorer alternatives.
Xplorer2 for example won't delete a folder. Error messages that tell me it's being used by another program. Ha! If i use Windows Explorer, no problem.

XY's search feature is nice addon but you can always get the free AgentRansack or shareware version (Filelocator Pro) which i find even quicker.

Hi, I did not purchase it but I wrote it. :)

Thumbnails is a "View" (just like in Explorer), so to see them just must select one of the thumbnails views (XYplorer has 4 of them). This can be done either via the right-click menu of the file list, or via the main menu View / Current Tab / Views (it's under "Current Tab" because the Views is stored tab-wise), or via the toolbar button "Views". There's also a toolbar button "Toggle Thumbnails" which gives you a fast one-click access to seeing thumbnails. You can as well map a keyboard shortcut to any (or all) of the thumbnail views to have it even faster...

A basic one-way synch is already there under the label "Backup (To...)". Check the help file...

BTW: In the recent BETA version this Backup functionality also preserves all three file/folders dates after the copying the files/folders.

The feature is called MouseDownBlowUp (MDBU), and you should have it in (1) Thumbnails, (2) Details with Thumbnails, (3) and on the Preview tab.

Ah, just to make this clear: XY's Trial Limitations are only:
- a nag screen at startup
- a red message printed in a corner of every image preview

That's it! All features work 100% and identical to the paid version.

Well worth the price! Even at $49.95 (which is what I *think* a lifetime licence will cost after today), it's a bargain - but if you can get in for $29.95 now, I wouldn't hesitate.

I didn't. At 1/3 the price of Dopus, and a lifetime license instead of Dopus' single version license, the choice of which one to choose was pretty much made for me.

I guess I just missed it  :(  I just saw this thread and went to purchase it, but the price has jumped.  Oh well- guess I'll have to stick with DO 8.  :(
